The Shop Mechanic is responsible for maintaining job production and quality by providing high-caliber maintenance and repair services to company equipment fleet, including vehicles, trucks, and heavy construction and railroad equipment.
● Inspects and diagnoses problems with equipment, including heavy machinery 
● Determines what parts and tools are necessary to make repairs
● Makes repairs and/or replaces defective parts using hand and power tools
● Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance, as specified by the manufacturer, in order to keep equipment in good working condition
● Maintains records of equipment repairs
● Escalates problems or concerns with equipment to Foreman when necessary
● Performs work efficiently and timely
● Communicates effectively with appropriate parties, including Shop and Field Foreman
● Performs other duties as assigned
● Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and in accordance with company policies and values
● Ability to safely and effectively use hand and power tools
● Ability to read and understand technical service manuals
● Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
● Basic understanding of automotive maintenance
● Ability to perform tasks independently
● High School Diploma or equivalent is required
● 2+ years of hands-on formal or informal experience in automotive maintenance or post secondary education in an automotive-related field required
The physical demands listed must be able to be met by the incumbent in this role in order to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation
 
● Ability to regularly attend work outdoors, navigating job sites and on/around heavy equipment, in varying weather conditions 
● Ability to safely navigate around the shop and yard
● Ability to bend, stoop, climb, crawl, etc. as needed and to stand for a prolonged amount of time
● Ability to intermittently lift up to 50 pounds
● Ability to meet all other Physical Demands as outlined in the Physical Demands Analysis
● Same-day travel to company job site locations, utilizing a company vehicle, intermittently required
● Some overnight travel to company job site locations outside of Kansas City metropolitan area, utilizing a company vehicle, may be required
● Valid Drivers License and ability to meet DOT requirements required
● Ability to work full-time hours, plus weekends and overtime as needed
