Industrial ElectricianSkilled Trades & Field Services
If you’re the electrician people call when a production machine goes down and nobody can immediately work out why, this could be a great fit. We’re looking for a highly experienced Senior Electrician to join the maintenance team within an established manufacturing operation. This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working beyond conventional electrical maintenance and has strong exposure to PLCs, HMIs, drives, industrial automation and complex production machinery. You’ll report to the Maintenance Manager and play a key role in keeping the plant running reliably – diagnosing breakdowns, reducing downtime, improving recurring problem areas and supporting the installation and commissioning of equipment. Key responsibilities include: Diagnose and resolve electrical and electronic faults on production machinery. Perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance across the plant. Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC and servo drives, VSDs/VFDs, motors, sensors, relays, contactors and control systems. Fault-find PLC-controlled and automated machinery at both hardware and software level. Work with industrial communication networks including Profibus, Profinet, CANbus and Modbus. Maintain and troubleshoot plastic processing equipment including injection moulding, extrusion and blow moulding machinery. Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and technical manuals. Identify recurring equipment failures and implement effective corrective solutions. Assist with equipment modifications, installations, testing and commissioning. Work closely with production, mechanical maintenance and engineering teams to minimise downtime. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electricians and apprentices. Support maintenance projects and project planning while ensuring electrical safety and compliance requirements are maintained. Requirements Red Seal / Trade Tested Electrician. Matric / NQF Level 4. Ideally a National Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, NQF Level 6 equivalent, or similar technical qualification. Approximately 10 years' industrial maintenance experience within a high-volume manufacturing or production environment. Strong PLC/HMI experience – exposure to platforms such as Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley, Delta or Yaskawa would be valuable. Strong knowledge of AC, DC and servo drives, including fault-finding and parameterisation. Practical experience with three-phase systems, motors, VSDs/VFDs, control panels, sensors and industrial automation. Excellent electrical/electronic diagnostic and fault-finding ability. Exposure to mechanics, pneumatics and hydraulics. Experience within plastics manufacturing or plastic processing machinery would be highly advantageous. Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions during breakdown situations. Own reliable transport. Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and weekends when production requirements demand it. Benefits Competitive salary package based on qualifications and experience. This is an opportunity to take on a senior technical maintenance role within a manufacturing environment where your ability to solve complex breakdowns and keep automated production equipment running will have a direct impact on plant performance. How to Apply If you’re a Trade Tested Electrician with serious industrial fault-finding skills and strong exposure to PLCs, drives and automated manufacturing equipment, we’d like to hear from you. Submit your updated CV to be considered.
