About the Role
~1 min readThe Service Manager oversees the daily operations of the fleet service department, including all mechanics, service technicians, and maintenance personnel. This role ensures the company’s fleet vehicles and equipment are maintained in optimal working condition, prioritizing safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and support mechanics and service technicians in daily maintenance and repair activities.
- Manage maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Oversee diagnostics, inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair work.
- Work with the field crews to schedule maintenance and manage breakdowns and accident repairs.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, DOT regulations, and company policies.
- Coordinate outside vendor repairs and service contracts as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts inventory.
- Monitor performance metrics, technician productivity, and service quality.
- Develop and implement process improvements to maximize efficiency.
- Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations for the mechanic team.
- Manage budgets related to fleet maintenance, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Respond to emergency repair needs and support field operations as necessary.
Requirements
~1 min read- 5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance, automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment service.
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of fleet vehicles, mechanical systems, and diagnostics.
- Experience with maintenance software/systems a plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
This position operates in both office and shop environments. Occasional field visits may be required. The role may require lifting, standing for extended periods, and working around heavy equipment.
