EngineeringQa Engineer

Role overview:

We're looking for an experienced and hands-on Stack Test Engineer to join our Stack Development team at Stargate Hydrogen. This role focuses on designingbuilding, assembling, and testing experimental systems and components to support the development of next-generation electrolyser stacks.

You will work at the intersection of engineering and practical execution - turning concepts into 3D models and drawings that can be turned into physical prototypes. Additionally, you will be responsible for setting up test rigs and supporting experimental campaigns. While the work is highly hands-on, it requires an engineering mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to understand and improve technical systems.

A significant part of the work is carried out within structured R&D and grant-funded projects, requiring disciplined documentation, reproducible results, and alignment with technical milestones and reporting requirements. The role combines hands-on execution with an understanding of how experimental work contributes to broader product development, validation, and research objectives.

About the company:

At Stargate, you will be part of a team determined to change the world. We are passionate about climate, hydrogen and innovation

Our enthusiastic team and pioneering spirit offer the opportunity to work with real purpose. We encourage you to think big and outside the box to bring your ideas to life

Being in a scale-up phase, the company will enable you to shape its structure and processes and give you significant responsibility and freedom in your work. The environment is agile, and problems are solved in an unbureaucratic way.

  • Experimental Assembly & Prototyping

Build, assemble, and modify experimental stack components, test rigs, and supporting systems. Work with mechanical parts, piping, fixtures, and custom setups in a workshop/production environment.

  • Testing & Validation Support

Execute test procedures, prepare setups, and support test campaigns. Monitor equipment, collect data, and ensure tests are conducted safely and consistently.

  • Design in CAD

Design stations, jigs for building/testing stacks, and serial/prototype stack components.

  • Drawings: Create drawings in CAD software for prototype manufacturing
  • Workshop & Equipment Operation

Operate industrial tools and equipment (e.g. torque tools, presses, basic machining tools). Handle pressure-related components and hardware safely and carefully.

  • Continuous Improvement & Troubleshooting

Identify issues during assembly or testing, propose improvements, and implement practical solutions together with engineers. Provide feedback from hands-on work to improve designs.

  • Basic System Integration

Support the setup of simple control systems for test benches (sensors, actuators, wiring). Assist in integrating mechanical and basic electrical components.

  • Documentation & Reporting

Document assembly steps, test setups, and experimental results in a structured and traceable way, supporting R&D activities and technical reporting where required.

Must-have qualifications:

  • Technical education (vocational or higher) in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or similar
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in industrial environments (e.g. manufacturing, assembly, testing, maintenance)
  • CAD skills (e.g. Inventor or similar)
  • Strong practical skills with tools, mechanical systems, and industrial equipment
  • Experience working with structured processes and safety standards
  • Ability to read technical drawings and follow engineering instructions
  • Engineering mindset with problem-solving attitude
