The Medical Disability Examiner will review medical records and complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) for Veterans Affairs compensation and pension claims using the Acceptable Clinical Evidence (ACE) methodology. Responsibilities include thorough evaluation of all pertinent medical documentation, and clear and accurate completion of DBQs. 

The examiner must apply current VA examination and documentation standards, deliver timely and high-quality reports, and ensure all findings meet ACE quality and regulatory criteria. All work supports the VA’s mission to expedite accurate benefits decisions for Veterans by leveraging advanced automation and evidence-based evaluation processes.

  • US Citizen
  • Licensed physician (MD), NP, or PA in good standing. 
  • PA's must be credentialed and function as a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) as defined by VA policy (i.e., able to practice independently, without mandatory physician co-signature or supervision for disability examinations).
  • Successful completion of all VA MDE ACE/DBQ training and onboarding requirements.
  • Ability to complete DBQs using ACE methodology and evidence review.
  • Excellent written and clinical communication.
  • Adherence to 24-hour turnaround and quality assurance standards for all assigned cases.
  • Strong medical documentation and evidence evaluation skills.
  • Experience in disability assessment or VA compensation and pension exams.
  • Familiarity with DBQs, ACE protocol, and medical-legal reporting.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
