The Senior Business Analyst supports TAFE NSW’s teaching, learning, and administrative goals by working with students, academics, professional staff, and IT specialists to ensure that technology investments deliver value by improving efficiency, enhancing the student and staff experience, reducing risk, and aligning IT solutions with strategic objectives.

This role will investigate the business problem or goal, understand needs, analyse and improve processes, gather, document and manage requirements, support technology projects, facilitate stakeholder communication, coordinate testing, and assess the impact of change.

We are seeking an analytical and curious thinker who uses systems thinking to understand business challenges and how people, processes, technology, and data interact within a dynamic environment.

You will have strong skills in analysing business processes and systems, identifying their core purpose, and translating insights into precise requirements.

The Senior Business Analyst asks thoughtful questions, challenges assumptions, and identifies opportunities for improvement. They build strong relationships with stakeholders, facilitate productive discussions, and communicate complex ideas in a clear and practical way.

In addition, the Senior Business Analyst is expected to serve as lead BA in programs or projects where multiple BAs are assigned. The role will support the Program and/or Project Manager to identify risks, project dependencies and ensure operational effectiveness in meeting business objectives.

This role demands a proven track record in requirements analysis, problem-solving under pressure, and workflows with experience in a project environment or understanding of project methodology.

You will also have demonstrated ability in stakeholder management and be able to facilitate meetings with a wide range of business stakeholders to understand and address their needs.

With a customer-focused approach, support for others through empathy, honesty, and professionalism is a must. You will have a strong drive to deliver outcomes that improve the experience of students and staff while supporting TAFE NSW’s strategic objectives and values.

To be successful in this role, you will have: -

  • Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated capability to map process models and knowledge of process modelling notation standards and platforms with a demonstrated understanding of the relationship between strategy and operational process enablement.

Highly Regarded:

  • 4+ years of experience in a dedicated business analyst role
  • Experience using formal business process modelling techniques (e.g. BPMN, UML, user journey mapping) to analyse and improve processes.
  • Apply systems thinking principles to understand interdependencies and drive holistic solutions.
  • Strong ability to document clear and precise requirements, including use cases, functional and non-functional specifications.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Comfortable asking “why” to uncover root cause, and confidently navigate challenging conversations.
  • Experience in mentoring or training junior BAs.
  • Experience with leading the requirements management of large programs where multiple BAs are assigned.
