Summary
The X-Ray/CT Supervisor is responsible for the daily operational oversight of the X-Ray/CT, DI front desk and Urgent Care X-Ray departments. This role provides leadership and support to technologists, ensures safe and efficient patient care delivery, maintains regulatory and accreditation readiness, and oversees staffing, scheduling, workflow, and quality initiatives. The Supervisor functions as a working leader, supporting complex clinical situations while coordinating resources, education, and communication across the department.
The X-Ray/CT Supervisor works collaboratively with the Diagnostic Imaging Director and Manager, Radiologists, nursing, providers, and support services to ensure high quality imaging services, excellent patient experience, and efficient departmental operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversees daily X-Ray, CT and front desk operations, ensuring appropriate staffing and workflow efficiency in additional to the Urgent Care clinic X-Ray staffing
- Manages daily schedules and procedure add-ons to support patient care needs
- Ensures AMION call schedules are accurate and up to date
- Leads daily huddles and ongoing communication with team members
- Provides on-floor support as needed, including assisting with complex cases
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
- Monitors and maintains compliance with regulatory, hospital, and accreditation standards
- Tracks and supervises readiness for inspections and documentation requirements in collaboration w DI Manager and DI Director
- Oversees DIQAPI quality metrics and related improvement initiatives in collaboration w DI Manager and DI Director
- Reviews repeat analysis, hand hygiene, dose/compliance metrics, and corrective action plans, marker usage
- Ensures adherence to CT and X-Ray protocols and supervises protocol compliance
Staff Supervision & Development
- Assists with hiring, orients, and onboards new staff
- Provides day-to-day coaching and performance feedback
- Conducts competency verification and skill assessments
- Oversees training programs and applications training for new equipment
- Addresses performance concerns and escalates significant issues to DI leadership
- Supervises student program and clinical rotations
Scheduling, Timekeeping, and Staffing
- Manages shift trades, and PTO approvals
- Ensures adequate staffing coverage across all shifts
- Resolves scheduling conflicts to support operations
- Oversees daily staffing assignments and manages staff schedules in CT/ X-Ray/ DI Assistants/ Tech II
- Completes staff schedules in CT/ X-Ray
Clinical and Patient Support
- Provides clinical support and leadership for technologists
- Assists in prioritizing workflow based on patient acuity and department needs
- Promotes patient-centered care, quality imaging, and service excellence
Data Tracking & Reporting
- Assists in collecting and analyzing turnaround times and modality volumes
- Monitors and distributes VRAD reports and trend data
- Tracks biopsy and procedure pathology in collaboration with the DI Manager and Director
- Reviews efficiency trends and implements improvement strategies in collaboration with the DI Manager and Director
Equipment & Supplies
- Ensures equipment readiness, preventive maintenance scheduling, and issue escalation
- Oversees supply ordering and par-level management
- Coordinates new equipment onboarding and staff training
Education & Communication
- Provides ongoing staff education on workflows, resources, equipment, and expectations
- Ensures timely dissemination of departmental communication
- Prepares and coordinates meeting agendas and minutes for X-Ray/CT, Tech II and DI Assistants in collaboration with DI Manager
Other Responsibilities
- Coordinates application training for new systems/equipment
- Supports initiatives improving access, quality, patient experience, and efficiency
- Collaborates with leadership on departmental goals and projects

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; administering scheduling systems; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; enforcing policies and procedures.
Minimum Education/Experience
Associate's Degree Completion of an American Medical Association (AMA) approved Radiologic Technologist program with an Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or Radiologic Technologist technical school.
3 or more years relevant experience
Required Licenses/Certifications
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Specialty: Radiology and/or CT
- Upon hire
California Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
Specialty: CA State Fluoroscopy licensure (RHF)
- Upon hire
Nevada Radiologic Technologist (not limited license)
- Within 3 months of hire into job
Other Experience/Qualifications
Required:
- 3-5 years of experience in Radiology
- Strong communication and team-building skills
- Demonstrated competency in CT, X-Ray, procedure operations
- Strong organizational skills
Preferred:
- 3-5 years of Leadership or charge experience preferred
- Interventional Radiology experience and/or US guided procedure experience preferred
