Founded by CPAs, tax attorneys, and engineers, Taxbit is the leading innovator automating global tax reporting for the digital economy. Taxbit's AI-enabled platform streamlines compliance related to digital assets, payments, and other financial transactions. Its unique combination of deep subject matter expertise and AI-forward technology have made it a fast-growing disruptor trusted by the world's leading fintechs, marketplaces, digital asset players, Big 4 accounting firms, traditional enterprises, and government agencies. Backed by top-tier Silicon Valley VCs, Taxbit's team is located across offices in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Salt Lake City, London, Madrid, and Singapore.

TaxBit is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Systems, Security & Compliance organization and take ownership of the cloud infrastructure that powers our platform. In this role, you will be a technical leader for our AWS environment, driving the architecture, automation, and operational excellence of systems that our customers and internal teams depend on. You will also help shape and drive our AI (Dev)Ops strategy, defining how we deploy, monitor, and operate AI-enabled systems responsibly and at scale. You will have broad influence over how we build, deploy, secure, and monitor infrastructure at scale, partnering closely with engineering, security, and compliance stakeholders to raise the bar on reliability, security, and developer velocity across the company.

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Design, build, and operate secure, highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS supporting TaxBit's platform and products
  • Own infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDK (preferred) or Terraform, driving consistency, repeatability, and version control across environments
  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub/GitHub Actions) to enable safe, frequent, and reliable deployments
  • Define and implement TaxBit's backup and disaster recovery strategy across cloud data stores and critical systems
  • Architect and evolve data storage and processing patterns that support scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Implement and maintain centralized logging, monitoring, and observability across services and infrastructure
  • Implement and maintain security guardrails integrated throughout the development lifecycle
  • Build workflow automation that reduces manual toil in infrastructure provisioning, deployments, and operations
  • Debug and resolve complex issues across distributed, cloud-native systems, driving root-cause analysis and durable fixes
  • Implement AI Ops/AI DevOps practices to deploy, monitor, and operate AI-enabled systems and pipelines in production
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, security, and compliance teams using tools such as GitHub, Linear/Jira, and Databricks

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc. minimum) in Computer Science or a related field
  • Significant experience in systems/infrastructure engineering, with deep, hands-on expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure
  • Strong programming skills in Python, TypeScript, or an equivalent language
  • Required: hands-on experience with CI/CD, GitHub, and Infrastructure-as-Code (AWS CDK preferred, Terraform acceptable)
  • Experience designing and implementing backup strategy, data architecture, and disaster recovery for cloud systems
  • Experience implementing and maintaining logging and monitoring/observability solutions
  • Security-minded, with experience implementing and maintaining security guardrails in engineering workflows
  • Experience with workflow automation and strong debugging skills across distributed systems
  • Familiarity with collaboration and workflow tooling such as Linear/Jira and Databricks
  • Familiarity with AI governance practices and frameworks (e.g., ISO 42001) for managing AI systems responsibly
  • Understanding of AI security risks and mitigations (e.g., model/data access controls, prompt injection, secure use of AI tooling)
  • Security-minded by default, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risk
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for systems end to end
  • Clear communicator who collaborates effectively across engineering, security, and compliance
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Pragmatic problem-solver who balances speed with reliability and security
  • Acts as an enabler for other engineers, building platforms, tools, and guardrails that make it easier for teams to ship safely and quickly
  • Collaborative by nature, building strong working relationships across engineering, security, and compliance to get to the best outcome together
