As a Certified Medical Assistant, you’ll gather patient information and work with the healthcare team to assess and provide age-appropriate care. You’ll also assist with examinations, treatments, laboratory testing, patient education, and referrals while following practice protocols.

- Collects and accurately documents patient information, vital signs, BMI, height, weight, medications, allergies, and reasons for visits
- Prepares patients for examinations, assists providers with treatments and testing, and documents care within the scope of practice
- Coordinates follow-up care for laboratory results, emergency room visits, and other patient needs
- Administers medications and immunizations as directed by physicians, documents administration and adverse reactions, and immediately reports errors
- Identifies patients eligible for the Vaccines for Children Program and follows program documentation and management procedures
- Provides and documents patient and family education as instructed by providers or practice protocols
- Coordinates referrals, verifies coverage, completes and transmits authorized referral documentation within 2 business days, and tracks follow-up reports
- Collects and processes specimens, performs laboratory tests and quality checks, and maintains testing equipment and records
- Coordinates outside laboratory services, tracks outstanding results, notifies providers, and reports laboratory errors and quality issues
- Screens and documents patient calls, provides telephone guidance and prescription refill support under provider direction, and responds appropriately to emergencies
- Maintains clinical supplies and medication inventories and follows infection control, CLIA/COLA, and OSHA requirements
- Communicates clearly with patients and families, participates in care team meetings and quality improvement initiatives, and maintains certification through documented continuing education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Graduation from a medical assistant or emergency medical technician program, or documentation from the licensing authority confirming that this education is not required for certification required
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required
- One qualifying credential: CCMA, CMA-AAM, CMA-C, EMT, EMT-A, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, licensed paramedic, NCMA, NRCMA, RMA-AAH, RMA-AAMP, RMA-AMT, or RMA-ARMA required
- 1 year of related experience preferred
