Supplemental Instruction Leader (SI) Tutor

To be considered for a position at Cleveland State, you must complete an online application. • Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% of full-time experience. 

• Conduct small-group tutoring sessions to support students’ understanding of course material at all levels.
• Apply a variety of teaching strategies, methods, and techniques to enhance learning.
• Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions.
• Attend mandatory SI Leader training at the start of each semester.
• Monitor students and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment during program activities.
• Assist students in developing effective study skills and strategies.
• Motivate and encourage students through positive feedback and reinforcement.
• Foster a college-going culture by providing informal mentoring and guidance to students.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

• Perform tasks using personal computers and peripheral devices.
• Operate and maintain (if applicable) office equipment such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners to support daily workflow.

• →Attend two weekly lecture classes for the courses they support (approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes per week).
• →Attend one weekly lab session (approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes per week).
• →Plan and lead two weekly SI group study sessions (approximately 2 hours per week).
• →Communicate clearly and work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• →Collaborate with teachers and students to support learning.
• →Maintain familiarity with Banner software and community college practices (preferred).
• →Proficiency in use of Google Suite and Microsoft Suite.

• High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
• Diploma in progress is permissible.
• Must have earned a grade of A in the relevant course being tutored.
• Must be a current college student (college or university)
• Must be available to work a minimum of 8 hours per week.
• Valid driver’s license.

This is an on-site position with the primary workplace in the Tutoring and Learning Center located in the Library Building at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee.
