The Distributed Canvass Manager is responsible for building and managing the campaign's canvassing operations in volunteer-led areas across the state. Working within the distributed organizing department, they will develop the strategy, systems, and leadership structures that allow volunteers to lead canvassing efforts in their own communities.

This is a volunteer-driven program that spans a wide and varied geography. The ideal candidate brings strong field experience, sound logistical judgment, and a demonstrated ability to develop volunteers into leaders.

  • Own turf and targeting for volunteer-led areas: Cut turf, set targets, and maintain MiniVAN assignments across a large and geographically dispersed territory.
  • Build canvassing operations in volunteer-led areas: Establish and run canvass programs across counties and communities, and develop volunteer leaders who can independently handle turf cutting, packet logistics, launch site identification, and materials distribution.
  • Build volunteer communities: Serve as a primary campaign contact to activists, supporters, volunteers, and voters, to maintain strong presence across geographic boundaries.
  • Manage voter contact systems and data: Ensure voter contact activities are created and uploaded in Mobilize, accurately reflected in VAN, easy for volunteers to find and join, and appropriately tracked.
  • Maintain data integrity: Ensure timely and accurate data entry across voter contact events.
  • Execute during GOTV: Manage high-volume distributed voter-contact programs and volunteer teams, rapidly troubleshoot volunteer and technology issues, and ensure daily voter-contact programs remain on pace to meet campaign goals.
  • Report results: Provide regular, accurate reporting on voter contact, volunteer recruitment, and program performance, with increased reporting frequency during GOTV.
  • Learn: Develop your own skills, cross-polinate ideas, and grow into a stronger organizer than you were before you started.
  • Run the virtual DVC phone bank program: Own the statewide calendar of virtual phone banks, including scheduling, list requests, dialer setup, Zoom logistics, and quality control on data entry.
  • Run mass volunteer recruitment texting: Work with leadership to build and send recruitment texts at scale. This includes audience selection, message drafting and testing, send scheduling, and response handling. Track conversion from text to signup to completed shift, and iterate on what actually turns a reply into a volunteer on a shift.
  • Develop volunteer phone bank hosts: Identify volunteers ready to lead, train them to host their own DVCs, and coach them through their first few until they can run independently.
  • Help build the out-of-state program: Recruit, onboard, and retain volunteers outside Texas, developing a distinct pitch and engagement ladder for supporters with no local stake in the race.
  • Script and message management: Partner with leadership to draft, test, and load scripts, iterating based on volunteer feedback and contact rates.
  • Drive voter contact goals: Set and hit weekly attempt, contact, and volunteer shift goals; adjust program tactics when numbers fall short.
  • Own the volunteer online community: Build, run, and moderate the volunteer Slack, Facebook groups, and other volunteer-facing online spaces. Keep conversation active, and answer questions quickly.
  • Drive volunteers from the community into shifts: Post opportunities, celebrate results, and turn online energy into signups on the calendar.
  • Develop volunteer leadership: Identify prospects, develop them into leaders, and support them in developing their own outreach tactics.
  • Build volunteer communities: Serve as a primary campaign contact to activists, supporters, volunteers, and voters, to maintain strong presence across geographic boundaries.
  • Engage out-of-state volunteers: Build and manage the community of supporters outside Texas, developing a distinct engagement path for volunteers who cannot attend in-person events or canvass.
  • Coordinate house parties and relational events in volunteer-led areas: Recruit volunteers to host house parties and relational events, help them plan and fill their events, and provide materials, agendas, and follow-up support.

Volunteer Engagement Manager is responsible for managing and engaging the campaign's volunteer community across our online platforms, and for coordinating house parties and relational events in volunteer-led areas.
