The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Communications Specialist on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI) communications team which supports internal and external stakeholder engagement efforts for CMEI Technology Programs.

The Communications Specialist helps communicate the CMEI office’s mission, activities, and goals externally and internally, specifically for the Federal Energy Management Program. Using a variety of tactics and strategies, this person will help convey and elevate the awareness of the office’s activities to stakeholders, the public, and Energy Department leadership. The Stakeholder Engagement Specialist will:

  • Leads stakeholder engagement strategic planning and implementation activities, including identifying priority stakeholders, goals, outreach tactics, and outcomes.
  • Creates and maintains system for FEMP to strategically track agency engagements and help prioritize agencies, regions, sites.
  • Develop federal agency “profiles” to show performance, challenges, use of FEMP programs, EPC activity, and opportunities.
  • Facilitates Senior leadership meetings and strategic planning.
  • Supports federal clients in building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Has strong understanding of the federal and energy landscape. Supports short-term and long-term engagement goals.
  • Identifies opportunities to increase reach to target audiences.
  • Analyzes tactics and develops best practices and new strategies to support FEMP goals.
  • Maintains awareness of CMEI announcements, programs, projects, and activities.
  • Coordinates with communications team on strategic initiatives and amplification strategies.
  • Perform analysis and develops briefing summaries for high-ranking CMEI staff on stakeholder events they plan to attend.
  • Review CMEI
  • Organize or participate in (virtual or in-person) conferences, workshops, peer reviews, interagency meetings, and other program meetings and develop summary documents that track action items and/or outcomes.
  • Conduct background research and write memos for leadership regarding stakeholder requests and events they plan to attend.
  • Monitor stakeholder inbox, track inquires, close out responses, and provide weekly updates to leadership and full stakeholder team. 
  • Qualifications include the ability to work as part of a team in a diverse group of technical and non-technical staff, to track and manage tasks, and to develop creative strategies to set and achieve goals. The candidate must be a self-starter and will need to manage competing priorities and respond to tight deadlines in a bureaucratic environment.
