Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive professional nursing care to patients in the Gastroenterology Clinic.
  • Perform patient assessments, physical examinations, and health histories.
  • Administer medications, wound care, and other individualized nursing interventions.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with and support gastrointestinal procedures, including endoscopic procedures, manometry, conscious sedation, and related patient preparation and recovery.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor specialized clinical equipment, including IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring equipment, EKG units, oxygen equipment, and endoscopic equipment.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and following procedures and promptly recognize and respond to adverse signs and symptoms or emergency situations.
  • Provide patient education, health promotion, counseling, and guidance regarding treatment and follow-up care.
  • Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare personnel within applicable scope-of-practice requirements.
  • Complete accurate and timely medical record documentation in accordance with MTF standards and applicable policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, infection control, and Joint Commission-related activities.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, providers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Citizenship:
    • U.S. citizenship is required for this contract position
  • Education and Licensure:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an appropriately accredited college or university; candidates with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and a minimum of three years of nursing experience may be considered.
    • Graduate from a nursing program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
    • Current, full, valid, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license meeting the requirements of the state where services are performed.
    • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in accordance with applicable contract requirements.
  • Required Experience:
    • Minimum of 36 months of clinical nursing experience within the last 48 months.
  • Required Skill and Competencies:
    • Demonstrated knowledge of professional nursing practices, patient care standards, documentation requirements, and clinical procedures.
    • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and make appropriate clinical decisions.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, internet applications, and electronic health records.
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse patient population and multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • The employee must be capable of performing the physical duties associated with professional nursing and clinical patient care, including standing, walking, assisting with patient movement and positioning, and operating clinical equipment as required. The employee must be able to respond promptly to clinical emergencies and perform duties within the scope of professional licensure.
