  • Lead the commercialization and long-term growth of DP World Tartus, identifying new trade corridors, customer segments and business opportunities to diversify revenue streams.
  • Works along with the regional and global teams to develop & drive strategic commercial projects for Tartus, Syria. This involves working together along with other SCALE and/or global DP World offices to develop new products, services and to facilitate trade for our global and strategic customers. 
  • Develops further the range of products and services that DP World offer. 
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, including shipping companies, port authorities, and government agencies, to foster positive relationships and promote effective operations. 
  • Defines, develops & executes local strategies for the major functional departments, in line with & contributing to DP World vision & strategy, within the borders of business plan & budget. 
  • Achieves the Company’s and its customer’s expectations with regard to operational efficiency, productivity and reliability. 
  • Maintains and enhances productive work relationships with other functional departments and external/internal customers for cooperation to achieve company goals. 
  • Build relationships internally with logistics teams and externally with potential logistics partners in order to develop our suite of inland and logistics services products to offer our customers an end-to-end solution. 
  • Participates as a key member of any steering committee for new projects & initiatives & plays a leading role in defining project management strategies & is responsible for timely deliverables of project plans. 

 

  • Manages the day to day operations of the reporting functions according to the agreed operating principles of the business & relationships with customers. 
  • Develops and implements operational strategies to optimize port efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and enhance overall productivity. 
  • Provides a working strategy to the IT function & contribute to development in technology & systems as applicable to improve efficiencies in cost, productivity & customer service. 
  • Monitors and analyses key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational efficiency and identify areas for improvement. Ensures a cost-efficient operation in excess current best practices. 
  • Liaises closely with shipping companies, customs agents, trucking companies, Customs, port authorities, and other statutory authorities to ensure that their requirements are met. 
  • Monitors port performance metrics and implementing improvements to enhance productivity. 
  • Develops and implements strategies to optimize port productivity, improve performance, and enhance operational processes. 
  • Ensures the maximizing of productivity and operational efficiency in handling containers through efficient use of resources including machinery, equipment, yard space, gate operation, application of innovative technology, economic use of financial and manpower resources. 
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the reporting functions according to the agreed operating principles of the business & relationships with customers. 
  • Ensures all operational KPI’s are met within the framework of safe operation, operational excellence, cost efficiency and meeting stakeholders’ requirements. 
  • Ensures that yard strategy is developed and implemented aiming to achieve the set KPI’s and optimum utilization, cost effectiveness and productivity of our yard space, manpower and equipment. 
  • Plans, organizes and controls the terminal operational process in order to obtain indicators in the commercial content settled in contracts, in compliance with policies and procedures for health and safety at work available within the company. 
  • Plans the activity of the terminal Operations according to the needs and emergencies occurring during operational process, to ensure that the full set of quantitative and qualitative indicators and to meet customers’ needs in the shortest time and longer-term enhancing company commercial positions within the country. 
  • Observes that all managers and labour in the terminal operation are trained in best operation practices with regards to advanced operations strategies and new technology. 
  • Measures and report on operational performance and develop plans to improve relevant key performance indicators 
  • Optimises continuously the operation processes through care for correctness, updating and improvement of S.O.P. 
  • Develops and implements effective strategies and actions to ensure the optimum deployment and utilization of the terminal Staff both our direct and third-party staff.
  • Ensures with all stakeholders that agreed infrastructure improvement requirements are executed on timely and quality manner. 

 

  • Ensures compliance with HSE policies & procedures. 
  • Enforces safe working practices, achieves zero fatalities, reducing injuries, RIFR and LTIFR 
  • Conducts regular inspections and audits to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to policies. 

 

  • Requests suitable terminal handling and other equipment to meet operational requirement, subject to Board approval. 
  • Takes a leading role in selection, negotiation & finalizing agreements with suppliers & customers & where appropriate be responsible for execution & maintenance of service levels as agreed. 
  • Oversees activities in the Engineering department in cost effective manner through optimal utilization of resources with adherence to performance, safety, quality and productivity. 
  • Sets targets and performance criteria for evaluating the performance of all technical activities of the department and for the subordinate staff (KPI and performance contracts). 
  • Ensure that the Engineering Department provides a fully functional, efficient and flexible workforce, while maintaining high standards of workmanship. 
  • Ensure that all container-handling equipment is maintained to the highest possible standards and that equipment availability is maintained at an optimum level. 
  • General Works closely with the stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic plan to advance mission, vision and values of the Business Unit. 
  • Manages employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline and grievances. Promotes and demonstrates positive behaviours in harmony with Our Principles 
  • Provides direction, promotes collaboration and ensures the team are enabled to achieve goals and objectives of the business Understands and adheres to DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies 
  • Ensures data security is maintained to protect the privacy and interest of customers and key stakeholders. 
  • Manages team of professionals and disseminating knowledge through continuous learning and development. 

 

Requirements

  • University Educational Degree preferable (diploma in shipping and cargo management / postgraduate in logistics 
  • Work Experience minimum of ten years in senior management position, preferably in port-related activities 
  • Experience in leading diverse functions in the terminal operations 
  • Proven track record of implementing winning strategies in the terminal Operations 
  • Fully Conversant with Safety regulations 
  • A proven track record of successfully leading and motivating diverse teams. 
  • Strong communication skills. 
  • Ability to navigate the organization and adapt quickly while working in a dynamic business environment. 
  • Solid diplomatic and commercial negotiation skills with the ability to maintain strategic relationships—internally and externally. 
  • Delegation skills to successfully grant staff sufficient authority and responsibility to achieve the business goals. 
  • Well-developed communication skills and an ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation. 
  • Business and commercial acumen developed over a number of years involving contract and industrial negotiations 
  • Customer- and marketing-orientated.  
  • Incumbent needs a full network of contacts in business and Government and have creditability in the industry. 
  • Advanced proficiency in English and Arabic is a must.
