Tool Maker - Portage Area

We are partnering with organizations in Portage that are seeking Tool Makers. • →Designs and builds jigs, fixtures, and production tools.
• →Operates a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and EDMs.
• →Interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine specifications.
• →Performs precision measurements using a range of inspection equipment.
• →Troubleshoots and repairs existing tools and dies to maintain production efficiency.
• →Selects appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool longevity and performance.
• →Collaborates with engineers and production staff to optimize tool designs.

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or relevant vocational training preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Demonstrated expertise in operating manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
• Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and material properties.
• Proficient in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Tool Maker in a manufacturing environment.

• Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.
• Familiarity with EDM and/or grinding processes.
• Certification in a related field (e.g., machining, metallurgy).
• Proven ability to mentor or train junior toolmakers.
• Experience with 5S or other lean manufacturing principles.
