The Marine Captain Relief (casual) is responsible for the safe operation, navigation, and command of company vessels in support of marine construction, forestry, mining, transportation, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. This position performs vessel operations including transportation of personnel, equipment, materials, barges, and project assets while ensuring compliance with Transport Canada regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety requirements. Working within active marine and construction environments, the Marine Captain is accountable for the safe execution of marine activities, maintaining vessel readiness, identifying potential hazards, and supporting project objectives. The position requires experience operating vessels in changing weather and water conditions, coordinating with field crews and equipment operators, and maintaining a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence. While marine operations are the primary responsibility, the role may also support equipment operation, material handling, mobilization, maintenance, and other field activities based on qualifications and operational requirements.
This is a casual position with hours based on project requirements, vessel operations, weather conditions, scheduling demands, and client needs. The successful candidate must be willing to work flexible schedules, including weekends, extended shifts, and travel to remote project locations. The position involves working outdoors and aboard vessels in varying conditions and may require lifting, climbing, handling lines and equipment, working on docks or uneven surfaces, and assisting with physical field activities.
