TWD is currently seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer in our Pittsburgh, PA office.

Position Overview:
As an Electrical Designer in our Pittsburgh office, you will support the development and delivery of electrical design documentation for projects within the energy and infrastructure sectors. You will work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop accurate, practical, and code-compliant designs, drawings, layouts, and documentation. This role requires strong technical design skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively coordinate electrical design work across all stages of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Documentation

  • Develop electrical design drawings, layouts, details, schematics, schedules, and related documentation for energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and revise electrical drawings in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and established design practices.
  • Support the design of electrical distribution, power, lighting, grounding, controls, and related systems as applicable to project requirements.
  • Incorporate engineering calculations, design criteria, equipment information, and technical specifications into design documents.
  • Review drawings and design documents for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and consistency.
  • Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, calculations, field information, and vendor documentation.
Multidisciplinary Coordination
  • Coordinate electrical design work with civil, structural, mechanical, process, controls, and other project disciplines.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews and coordination meetings.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts and interface issues.
  • Coordinate electrical equipment layouts, cable routing, raceways, conduits, and other design interfaces as required.
  • Incorporate comments from engineers, project managers, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders into design deliverables.
Project Support
  • Support electrical engineering teams throughout the design and project delivery process.
  • Assist with preparation of design packages, technical documentation, material take-offs, and other project deliverables.
  • Support field investigations, site surveys, construction activities, and as-built documentation as required.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment documentation, and contractor submittals for consistency with design requirements.
  • Assist with responding to requests for information and resolving construction-related design questions.
Quality & Technical Development
  • Follow established design procedures, quality assurance and quality control processes, and project standards.
  • Maintain accurate and organized design files and project documentation.
  • Apply applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry practices to design activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, consistency, and quality.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving electrical design practices, technologies, and industry standards.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to less-experienced designers as appropriate.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Intermediate level: 4–9 years of relevant electrical design or drafting experience.
  • Experience supporting projects within the energy, power, utilities, industrial, infrastructure, or related sectors is preferred.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering and design teams is preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, drafting practices, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience developing electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to interpret electrical engineering calculations, specifications, equipment documentation, and design criteria.
  • Familiarity with electrical design, drafting, modeling, and documentation software and tools.
  • Understanding of electrical power distribution, grounding, lighting, controls, and related systems as applicable to project requirements.
  • Ability to identify design conflicts and develop practical solutions in coordination with engineers and other disciplines.
  • Understanding of construction methods and the practical application of electrical designs in the field.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality design deliverables.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and coordination skills.
  • Ability to receive direction, incorporate feedback, and take ownership of assigned work.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations as required.
