Software Engineer I

US Cold owns and operates one of the most complex temperature-controlled logistics networks in North America. Every day, our systems coordinate the storage and movement of food at national scale across a network of state-of-the-art distribution centers, including multiple highly automated warehouse facilities.

As part of our technology modernization strategy, we continue to invest in cloud platforms, application development, automation, and data-driven solutions that support logistics operations throughout the cold chain. Our Logistics Technology team develops and supports strategic platforms that improve transportation planning, visibility, and operational efficiency across the enterprise. 

The Software Engineer I contributes to the design, development, enhancement, and support of SmartMove, US Cold Storage's transportation and logistics platform. This position is ideal for an early-career software engineer who enjoys solving complex business problems, developing modern cloud-based applications, and collaborating with both technical and business teams.

You will help build scalable software solutions, data processing applications, cloud-native services, and system integrations that support transportation operations throughout the cold supply chain,

• →Design, develop, test, and maintain software features for the SmartMove platform.
• →Build and enhance data pipelines, ETL processes, and analytical solutions using Python.
• →Develop and support cloud-native applications using Microsoft Azure services.
• →Design and maintain integrations with third-party transportation systems and external business applications.
• →Build solutions leveraging Snowflake, Azure Blob Storage, PostgreSQL, and related cloud technologies.
• →Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
• →Participate in code reviews, testing efforts, and software quality initiatives.

• 1-3 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience developing applications using Python.
• Experience with modern web development frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, React, or similar technologies.
• Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and services, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Experience working with APIs and system integrations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.

• Experience building or supporting ETL and data engineering solutions.
• Exposure to Snowflake or other cloud-based data platforms.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
• Experience working within Agile software development teams.
• Exposure to transportation management, logistics, supply chain, or warehouse management systems.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications and services

This role is primarily office-based and focused on application development, cloud technologies, system integrations, and business platform support. The position works closely with software engineers, business stakeholders, and IT teams to deliver reliable and scalable technology solutions.

May require physical effort associated with using a computer to access information, along with occasional standing, walking, or lifting needed to carry out everyday activities. Effective communication, vision, and hearing are essential for safety and productivity. Operate computers, tablets, phones, and other office equipment as required.

Additional work hours may be requested to support projects, production activities, or special initiatives. Engage in frequent interaction and communication with team members and stakeholders.
