The Assistant Program Director - Member Programs and Services (Student Services Program Administrator) maintains operational oversight for services within the Programming unit, including the Personal Training and Small Group Training programs, membership and guest services, and engagement initiatives and events. The position supervises and leads a dynamic team of unit personnel responsible for delivering a comprehensive schedule of programs and services. Oversees personal training operations and staff development, membership and guest sales, and campus community engagement events, including tours and open house programs. Weekend and evening work is required to meet the needs of the position.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Responsible for the day-to-day management, delivery, and assessment of the Personal Training program and Small Group Training programs, including staff development, certification compliance, scheduling, participant experience, and program growth.
- →Provide operational leadership for membership services, guest services, participant engagement initiatives, and front-facing service delivery in collaboration with Business Services personnel.
- →Consult with internal units, campus partners, University departments and vendors to develop and lead innovative programmatic initiatives, including initiatives to enhance program participation of underrepresented groups.
- →Develop and coordinate departmental programs, special events, and strategic initiatives as assigned.
- →Collaborate with campus partners to manage department participation in community events, such as Open House days, Husky for a Day program, visitor tours and Orientation programs.
- →Responsible for day-to-day management of the department's administrative space, including staffing and customer service response.
- →Maintain complete and accurate documentation related to all unit program activities, including risk management of programs; assess program participation and outcomes to recommend necessary modifications.
- →Oversee and implement emergency action plans and risk mitigation strategies for all programs. Ensure compliance with risk management policy and university policies.
- →Manage human resources for unit personnel, including maintaining appropriate staff levels, hiring, termination, training & certification compliance, creation of work schedules, payroll approvals, and employee evaluations.
- →Review and recommend policy and procedure changes to the unit Assistant Director.
- →Collaborate with internal units, campus partners, and external stakeholders to develop and implement innovative programs, services, and engagement opportunities that support departmental and divisional goals.
- →Instruct CPR/First Aid/AED classes for student employees and the UConn Community.
- →Drive department vehicles in support of departmental operations, outreach initiatives and special events.
- →Participate in departmental committees, work groups, and advisory committees as assigned.
- →Additional duties as requested by supervisor.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Five (5) years of documented experience. One (1) year of experience leading fitness programs.
- Current First-Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.
- One (1) personal or strength training certification from a nationally accredited organization (e.g., ACSM, AFAA/NASM, ACE).
- One (1) group exercise certification from a nationally accredited organization (e.g., ACSM, AFAA/NASM, ACE).
- Demonstrated understanding of, stated commitment to and/or experience working with diverse populations.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Documented fitness management experience, including scheduling and training staff.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating in-house development programs for fitness personnel, including personal trainers.
- Experience with software applications related to recreation program management (e.g., Fusion, Connect2Concepts, SubItUp).
- One (1) specialty fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization in functional training, corrective exercise, or special populations (e.g., NSCA, ACSM, AFAA/NASM, ACE).
- Two (2) or more specialty group exercise certifications from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., SPINNING/Cycling, ZUMBA, Yoga, TRX, Kickboxing, Pilates, Barre, Functional Training).
- First-Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.
