Postdoctoral Research Associate - Applied Palaeoclimatology

This position is funded by the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science (ACEAS). ACEAS is a national-scale, university-led, research centre focused on helping the world prepare for climate risks emerging from East Antarctica and the Southern Ocean by integrating knowledge of the ocean, atmosphere, cryosphere and ecosystems, and their interplay. ACEAS 2026-2028 will focus on understanding the Denman region and its role in the broader Antarctic and Southern Ocean systems. The program leverages successful field campaigns and exciting opportunities to collaborate across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. • →Develop and interpret past climate records from Antarctic ice samples, including those collected during the 2023/24 Denman Terrestrial Campaign.
• →Undertake high-quality research of national and international standing.
• →Contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students.
• →Drive interdisciplinary collaboration within ACEAS, nationally amongst Antarctic researchers, and internationally.
• →Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

• A PhD in glaciology, climate science or a relevant field (eg physics, geology, maths).
• A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition and made worthwhile contributions to the field of Antarctic climate and palaeoclimate.
• Familiarity with Antarctic datasets relevant to understanding current and past climate change and variability and cryosphere processes.
• Experience, relative to current career stage, in research supervision, and supporting graduate level learning.
• A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline and wider research community.

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155,885 comprising base salary within the range of $114,766 to $133,235 plus 17% superannuation.
