Billing Auditor & Medical Records Specialist

Rockstar is hiring a full-time Billing Auditor & Medical Records Specialist on behalf of a physical therapy practice in Arkansas. This is not a typical medical biller role. This position sits at the back end of the billing cycle, after claims have already been submitted to and processed by insurance. The core responsibility is reviewing patient statements and account balances for accuracy before they go out to patients, catching errors in how payments and adjustments were applied so patients never receive an incorrect bill. Alongside that, this role handles medical records requests with genuine, hands-on HIPAA expertise, not certification-level knowledge, but real, working fluency in the rules that govern medical records disclosure. The ideal candidate has real experience auditing patient balances and reviewing billing statements for accuracy, plus seasoned, practical HIPAA knowledge they can demonstrate, not just describe. Key Responsibilities Patient Statement & Balance Review (Primary Focus) Review patient statements for accuracy before they are sent out Audit patient account balances to confirm insurance payments and adjustments were applied correctly Identify and correct discrepancies in posted balances before statements go out to patients Flag and escalate any billing errors that require correction upstream before rebilling Medical Records & HIPAA Compliance Process medical records requests in full compliance with HIPAA regulations Verify requester identity and authorization before releasing any protected health information Apply genuine, working knowledge of HIPAA rules specific to medical records disclosure, this is not a certification-only role Track incoming requests to ensure timely response within required timeframes Maintain accurate, secure documentation throughout the medical records request process Tools & Systems Prompt (EMR) Availity Inovalon My Ability United Healthcare portal Requirements Real, hands-on experience auditing patient balances and reviewing billing statements for accuracy, this is a back-end review role, not front-end claims billing Seasoned, verifiable working knowledge of HIPAA as it applies specifically to medical records requests, certification alone is not sufficient Strong attention to detail and accuracy Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently Non-Negotiables Genuine patient balance and statement review experience, not general billing experience alone Real, seasoned HIPAA knowledge specific to medical records requests Strong attention to detail Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
