POSITION SUMMARY:
The Digital Indirect Tax Operations & Automation Analyst (P2) is a mid-level role within the Indirect Tax team, responsible for supporting U.S. indirect tax operations by ensuring accurate sales and use tax determination, maintaining tax compliance, and driving continuous process improvements through automation, AI, and digital solutions.
This role combines traditional indirect tax operational responsibilities with emerging technologies, including workflow automation, AI-enabled productivity tools, process optimization, and data analytics, to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen compliance.
Working closely with the Indirect Tax team and cross-functional stakeholders, the analyst will help identify automation opportunities, streamline manual processes, and support the organization's digital transformation initiatives while building foundational expertise in indirect tax and tax technology.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Expertise
Maintain the customer exemption electronic database, ensuring data integrity and completeness while using automation tools to optimize record management and error-proofing measures.
Validate and maintain accurate supporting documentation for sales transactions, serving as the data foundation for indirect tax compliance and downstream automated workflows.
Support state sales and use tax audits by utilizing data extraction and reconciliation tools to efficiently prepare documentation packages for internal and external stakeholders.
Analyze recurring indirect tax processes to identify manual bottlenecks, designing and implementing low-code solutions via Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) to drive efficiency.
Develop, test, and maintain AI-enabled workflows and automated controls for tax data validation, reporting, and compliance routine processes.
Create interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI and Excel to transform raw tax transaction data into clear, actionable business insights.
Support ERP tax configurations and system integrations, participating in user acceptance testing (UAT) for digital tax platform updates.
Deliver high-quality customer service to internal stakeholders (Sales, Credit teams), translating operational tax challenges into practical digital solution requirements.
Stay informed of developments in indirect tax regulations and AI capabilities, proactively identifying how legislative changes impact existing automated workflows and tax technologies.
Project Management & Delivery Support
Support the planning, execution, testing, and implementation of indirect tax technology and automation initiatives.
Collaborate with Tax, Finance, IT, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into practical digital solutions.
Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT), defect tracking, and validation of automation solutions.
Monitor project milestones, risks and action items to support timely project delivery.
Prepare project documentation, user guides, and status updates for stakeholders.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
Develop and maintain documentation for automation solutions, process flows, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures.
Share best practices, reusable automation components, AI use cases, and lessons learned across the tax team.
Provide user training and ongoing support to encourage adoption of automation and AI-enabled solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business processes, gather requirements, and drive digital transformation initiatives within the tax function.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the organization.
Continuously expand technical and tax knowledge through self-learning, formal training, and participation in team knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Support the preparation of presentations, reports, and management updates related to automation initiatives, tax operations, and project progress.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2 - 4 years of relevant experience in automation, digital solutions, software development or a related discipline.
Fresh graduates and candidates with internship or project-based experience in Power Platform or RPA are encouraged to apply.
Experience with ERP systems and tax engines (Oracle, Vertex) is preferred.
Demonstrated interest or academic coursework in AI, machine learning or business process automation is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform components: Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI.
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications including SharePoint and Teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting functions.
Basic knowledge of SQL, data querying, or data analytics tools is an advantage.
Basic understanding of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) concepts, AI-enabled solutions, workflow automation, and low-code/no-code development concepts.
Knowledge of Agile methodologies and their application in delivering digital automation solutions.
