Vertiv is seeking a Lead Engineer, Components to be part of Vertiv’s Core Engineering Electronics team. The team includes groups based in both the United States and India and consists of 30+ engineers.  The team is responsible for the development and maintenance of electronic circuit boards in support of products of multiple global lines of business, as well as the support for Vertiv’s global electronics component libraries.

The Lead Component Engineer is responsible for the technical governance, selection, qualification, and lifecycle management of electronic components used in product designs. This role ensures component reliability, availability, compliance, and cost effectiveness across current and future platforms, while reducing supply‑chain and obsolescence risk.

Responsibilities

  • →Provide guidance to component engineers for processes and priorities.
  • →Main point of contact for component engineering related inquiries and support.
  • →Evaluate, select, and approve electronic components (passives, semiconductors, connectors, electromechanical).
  • →Monitor component lifecycle status (NRND, EOL, PCN, PDN). Track and respond to component availability issues.
  • →Lead mitigation strategies for obsolescence and supply risk.
  • →Drive second-source and form-fit-function replacement strategies.
  • →Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals).
  • →Maintain component databases, datasheets, and qualification records.
  • →Add alternates and create changes using the PD Cloud or Teamcenter PLM system.
  • →Leverage AI and automation tools to reduce time to market, improve quality, and reduce cost.
  • →Work in coordination with international design teams, external suppliers and consultants as appropriate.  
  • →Collaborate with development engineering and test engineering around the globe.  As part of the product life cycle, support and maintain the product design.
  • →Provide support for global electronics library standardization.
  • →As a part of the Core Engineering organization, he / she will be expected to meet a set of SLAs and KPIs for component engineering.

Requirements

  • Computer or Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in electronics.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple component engineering requests.
  • Solid understanding of full product lifecycle management and development process.
  • A solid understanding of electronic component types. 
  • Experience with global supply-chain risk management.
  • Experience using PLM and ERP systems such as SAP, PD Cloud, Enovia, Teamcenter etc…
  • Previous experience using supply chain management tools such as Silicon Experts, IHS/Accuris a plus. 
  • Self-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision and in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, both domestically and internationally.
  • Residence near (or willingness to relocate to) the Shenzhen area is required.
  • Experience working with teams in US, China, Europe, and India is strongly preferred.
  • Team management experience preferred.
