The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the electrical design, controls development, system integration, and commissioning of automated packaging equipment. This role develops and manages PLC, HMI, and motion control programs while collaborating with Electrical Designers, Mechanical Engineers, Project Managers, Manufacturing, Service, vendors, and customers to deliver complete, reliable packaging automation solutions. The Electrical Engineer supports projects from design and integration through equipment assembly, testing, commissioning, startup, and customer support.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Design & Develop: Determine electrical and controls requirements based on project specifications and customer needs. Develop and manage PLC, HMI, and motion control programs while selecting electrical and controls components and coordinating vendor quotes and parts releases.
- →Integrate & Validate: Integrate controls and third-party systems into complete packaging automation solutions. Partner with Electrical Designers to develop electrical schematics, bills of materials, and control system documentation. Work with third-party vendors to develop solutions and establish appropriate validation and testing requirements.
- →Commission & Optimize: Support equipment assembly, testing, commissioning, startup, FAT, and SAT activities. Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, software, and system integration issues while optimizing equipment performance, reliability, and functionality.
- →Lead Project Engineering: Support electrical and controls design and integration planning throughout the project lifecycle. Coordinate with Project Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, vendors, suppliers, and customers to ensure technical requirements, project schedules, and deliverables are met.
- →Troubleshoot & Support: Provide technical support throughout equipment development, commissioning, startup, and customer support. Track, investigate, and resolve customer support issues while promoting best practices and sharing knowledge across Engineering and other departments.
- →Document & Improve: Create and maintain detailed electrical, controls, and project documentation, including programming documentation, validation requirements, third-party system documentation, and training materials. Maintain revision control and contribute to continuous improvement, standardization, and engineering best practices.
Requirements
~1 min read- Education equivalent to a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent training and experience.
- 2+ years of PLC/HMI programming experience, preferably with Allen Bradley and Siemens systems.
- Proficiency with programming languages used in PLCs, such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagram, to develop and troubleshoot control systems.
- Proficiency in understanding electrical circuits, wiring, and components such as sensors, actuators, and relays, which are integral to control systems.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and basic electronic measuring devices.
- Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to apply engineering principles to solve problems in control systems, hardware, or software
- Good written and verbal communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams. Ability to work effectively in team environments and contribute to ongoing projects.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation, electrical schematics, and control system diagrams.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring that designs, programming, and documentation are accurate and meet quality standards.
- Ability to Travel up to 15%
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation, data analysis, and presentations.
