ONCOLOGY CLERK 

(REGULAR PART TIME) 


regular part-time Oncology Clerk position is available at Groves Memorial Community Hospital. This position is unionized with UNIFOR, Local 1106. 


RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This position provides administrative and clerical assistance to the Registered Nurses and Physician working in the Oncology departmentThe Unit Clerk plays a key role in registering and scheduling patients using both Cerner and Meditech, supporting clinical workflows, and maintaining smooth unit operations. This position contributes to a safe, organized environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while fostering strong collaboration within the team. 


  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the nurses and physicians in the Oncology department  
  • Perform reception duties including answering telephones, responding to inquiries, and faxing  
  • Register patients and accurately enter and maintain patient data  
  • Book internal and external appointments within oncology protocol timelines  
  • Transcribe physician orders and complete order entry for tests and diagnostics  
  • Maintain and organize patient charts, records, and files (retrieval, filing, and documentation)  
  • Support statistical tracking and data entry (including Excel spreadsheets)  
  • Manage office supplies and assist with general unit organization  
  • Utilize hospital information systems including Meditech, Cerner, ISAAC, and Clinical Connect (if applicable)  
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and assist with additional duties as required 
  • Additional duties as required 


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Post-secondary diploma in Medical Office Administration, Health Office Administration, or equivalent  
  • Medical Terminology certificate required  
  • Previous experience in a ward clerk, unit clerk, or healthcare office environment, including patient registration and order entry  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with basic design tools for patient education materials is an asset  
  • Experience with Meditech (Registration, Order Entry, Scheduling) preferred  
  • Experience with Cerner’s PowerChart Oncology preferred 
  • Experience with Interactive Symptom Assessment and Collection (ISAAC) and Clinical Connect considered an asset  
  • Excellent clerical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and positive approach  
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment  
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and willingness to seek clarification when needed  
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team 

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent performance and attendance required 
  • Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date 
  • Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check 
  • Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired 


HOURS OF WORK: As per department schedule 


SALARY: $25.31 - $27.04
