Facilities Technician (Temporary 4-month contract)

West Point Grey Academy is seeking a Facilities Technician to join our team on a temporary 4-month contract, supporting a colleague who is currently on leave and anticipated to return to full-time work in November 2026. This role has strong potential for permanent, full-time placement as our team grows. This role is eligible to participate in our benefits program for temporary employees.

This is a hands-on, practical role suited to someone who is comfortable with a wide range of general maintenance tasks and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team. 

Impact of the Role: 

In this role, you will help ensure that:

• School facilities are well maintained, safe, and functional
  
• Maintenance issues are identified and addressed quickly
• Indoor and outdoor spaces remain clean, organized, and ready for use
• Equipment and systems continue to operate reliably with minimal disruption

In your first months at WPGA, you'll be directly involved in:

General Maintenance & Repairs

• Completing routine maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and equipment repairs
  
• Responding to service requests and completing work orders accurately and on time
• Troubleshooting equipment issues and performing minor repairs
• Supporting inventory and organization of tools, parts, and materials

Facilities & Grounds

• Inspecting facilities for wear, damage, or safety concerns and taking appropriate action
  
• Assisting with groundskeeping, including outdoor maintenance and site upkeep
• Supporting furniture moves and general campus readiness

Pool & Fitness Facility Support (as needed)

• Assisting with routine pool maintenance tasks, including cleaning, monitoring, and basic equipment checks
  
• Supporting the upkeep of gymnasium, fitness, and change room spaces
• Reporting any pool or equipment issues to the Facilities team

Emergency & Team Support

• Reporting to urgent maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, equipment failure) in a timely manner
• Working collaboratively with team members and external contractors when required

About You

I am someone who...

• Has hands-on experience with general maintenance tasks
  
• Is comfortable using basic tools and completing minor repairs independently
• Can identify issues and take initiative to resolve them (or ask for help when needed)
• Works reliably, safely, and take pride in doing quality work
• Communicates clearly and works well with others
• Is physically able to perform manual work, including lifting and outdoor tasks

Additional Details

• Experience in facilities, maintenance, or a trades-related role is strongly preferred
• Valid driver's licence is an asset
• First Aid/WHMIS certificate is an asset
• Pool operator experience or certification is an asset, but not required
• A criminal record check will be required (initiated by WPGA)
