The Senior Director of Financial Management & Stewardship provides disciplined financial monitoring and stewardship of institutional commitments, investments, and management decisions. This role maintains the university's tracking mechanisms for major commitments and financial models, ensures that commitments are appropriately funded and visible to leadership, and leads school/unit/program financial reviews, trend analysis, and forecast monitoring to identify financial issues before they become problems. The Senior Director drives the organization to maintain oversight and controls over university commitments, funding sources, and governance processes.

Responsibilities

Institutional Commitment and Funding Stewardship

  • →Maintains and monitors financial models and tracking mechanisms supporting major institutional commitments, investments, and management decisions; ensures commitments are appropriately encumbered, funding sources are identified, and unfunded or underfunded commitments are surfaced before they become problems.

Financial Monitoring and Performance Assessment

  • →Provides ongoing financial monitoring and performance assessment across schools and units, including forecast monitoring and reconciliation.

School/Unit/Program Financial Reviews

  • →Partners with school leaders and business partners to lead periodic financial reviews of schools, units, and programs; identifies financial issues and trends and partners with unit leadership on resolution.

Management Reporting and Trend Analysis

  • →Produces management reporting and trend analysis for the Vice Chancellor and senior finance leadership, providing visibility into institutional financial exposure and obligations.

Ad Hoc Analysis and Management Support

  • →Provides ad hoc financial analysis and management support to the Vice Chancellor and senior finance leadership as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree
  • Eight years of related financial management, financial planning and analysis, or institutional stewardship experience in a university, health care institution, or comparably complex organization.
  • Strong ability to maintain and interpret sophisticated financial models. Working knowledge of university funding sources and restrictions.

  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with encumbrance, commitment tracking, or fund accounting systems.
  • Strong follow-through and institutional persistence to keep tracking mechanisms current.
  • Risk identification and financial governance skills.

Additional related education can substitute for experience.

No specific certification/professional license is required for this position.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - American Institute of Certified Public Accountants 
Financial Management (8 Years) No additional work experience unless stated elsewhere in the job posting.

About the Role

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
