Registered Nurse Job Summary

Roane Youth Academy is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for our overnight shift in Rockwood, Tennessee. This role is a great fit for a nurse who wants meaningful work in a residential behavioral health setting while being part of a supportive team focused on youth care, safety, and stability.

As an RN, you will provide nursing care, administer medications, complete health assessments, respond to medical needs, maintain accurate documentation, and work closely with clinical, behavioral health, education, and direct care staff.

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. Roane Youth Academy in Rockwood, Tennessee, provides trauma-informed residential care for boys ages 12 to 17 in a structured, supportive environment.

The program combines clinical services, education, recreation, life skills development, and 24/7 care to help youth build stability, confidence, and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care and support to youth in a residential treatment setting
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor for effectiveness, side effects, and safety concerns
  • Complete health screenings, assessments, and nursing documentation
  • Respond to medical needs, injuries, illnesses, and emergencies according to policy and scope of practice
  • Communicate with physicians, pharmacies, families, clinical staff, and program leadership as needed
  • Maintain accurate medical records and complete required documentation in a timely manner
  • Support infection control, medication management, and health-related compliance standards
  • Educate youth and staff on health, wellness, medication, hygiene, and related topics as appropriate
  • Collaborate with clinical, behavioral health, education, and direct care teams
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment during overnight hours

Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Tennessee required
  • Previous nursing experience preferred
  • Behavioral health, residential treatment, pediatric, adolescent, psychiatric, correctional, or emergency care experience helpful
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Strong assessment, documentation, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Must be able to remain calm, professional, and responsive in a structured residential environment
  • Must pass all required background checks, screenings, and pre-employment requirements

Physical Demands

  • Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable
  • Able to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as needed
  • Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state
  • Must pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification exams.

Other Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to work overnight hours
  • Must be able to maintain professional boundaries with youth, families, staff, and community partners
  • Must comply with all Youth Opportunity policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
