Engineering Manager, Usage Based Billing Team

We are continuing to grow our leadership team, and currently are hiring an Engineering Manager for our Usage-Based Billing team.

The Usage-Based Billing Team is a brand new sub-team of the larger Billing and Payments organization at 1Password. This team of frontend and backend developers will build the platform required for 1Password to monetize our multi-product offerings while ensuring a transparent and reliable billing experience for our customers.

You will be responsible for tactical execution by the team, helping to coordinate activities such as cycle planning, design reviews, and project planning. You will also be responsible for hiring and coaching world-class talent for your team.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

• At least 3 years experience in a role where you were responsible for managing a team of software engineers and everything that comes with it.

• Manage and grow a high-performing, inclusive team by coaching engineers and developing future leaders. Foster an environment of innovation, collaboration, and career growth through regular feedback and performance management.

• The ability to create and maintain a positive, healthy team environment in which everyone is supported, encouraged, and meaningfully challenged to do great work. You motivate and inspire others.

• You take ownership of your team’s outcomes and feel confident making decisions in ambiguous situations while empowering others to do the same. You remain calm under pressure, make informed decisions with limited data, and support your team through uncertainty.

• Contribute to cross-team and departmental initiatives that support broader engineering strategy and continuous improvement.

• You have significant hands-on development experience and have engineered your way out of many complex, unscoped problems. Having lived the life of a senior developer before, you leverage your own experience to coach and train up the developers on your team.

• You are willing to engage directly with technical challenges when needed and lead by example.

• Provide technical leadership to developers both in your team and across the engineering organization.

• You have successfully coordinated and delivered large-scale projects before that touched multiple areas of the business, product, or underlying architecture.

• Scope, plan, and drive execution of initiatives with your team. Ensure accountability to goals, timelines, and quality standards, proactively removing blockers along the way.

• Ensure your team is accountable to goals and timelines, proactively resolving blockers and aligning execution with scope and quality.

• Cascade relevant updates and priorities to stakeholders and collaborating teams, ensuring transparency and alignment on roadmaps and progress.

• Hire and manage engineers of varied levels, ranging from junior to staff. Foster an environment of innovation, execution, and collaboration.

• Work to scope and plan key deliverables for projects and initiatives with the team, effectively partnering with cross-functional stakeholders across the business to build and refine the team’s roadmap.

• Drive execution with an emphasis on iterations and deliverables, quality, velocity, and communication.

• Provide technical leadership to developers both in your team and across the engineering organization.

• Grow a team of strong engineers to create an inclusive workplace.

• Continue scaling a highly specialized engineering team by working with a team of Engineering Managers to continuously refine hiring, onboarding, and development processes.

• Experience managing remote and distributed teams

• User experience/design background

• Experience in Billing & Payments

USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $192,000 USD and $278,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.

Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $171,000 CAD and $248,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
