We are excited to welcome a Staff Developer to join the Identity Platform team at 1Password.
In this critical role, you will help shape the architecture, evolution, and reliability of the core identity systems that power 1Password. This platform underpins authentication, authorization, session management, device trust, policy enforcement, and integrations with external identity providers. It is foundational to both our consumer and enterprise offerings and central to our Extended Access Management strategy.
Your leadership will directly influence our technical direction, ensuring alignment with company strategy while advancing modern identity capabilities and engineering excellence. This role is focused on building and executing a roadmap that elevates quality, scalability, and security across the identity domain.
This is not just a technical role. It requires collaboration, creativity, and a strong sense of ownership. You will partner closely with teams across the company to deliver identity systems that are secure, resilient, and built for the way people and AI agents work today.
This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
8+ years of experience building resilient and reliable software systems
You have deep Go programming expertise
Strong understanding of authentication, authorization and identity concepts (OAuth, OIDC, scoped access, policy enforcement) with a background in security and performance
5+ years of hands-on experience in identity and access management.
Proven ability to lead identity strategy and mentor teams across functions using outstanding communication skills, driving a security-focused culture across large organizations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non technical audiences
Demonstrated experience defining and executing technical roadmaps
Deep expertise in distributed systems, system architecture, and product development within a cross functional environment
Proven ability to lead technical discussions and drive architectural decisions
A track record of raising quality standards through testing, observability, operational excellence, and secure development practices
Strong problem solving skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges
Curiosity and a desire to stay current with evolving identity standards and emerging technologies

Write code with a focus on reliability, durability, and maintainability
Drive best practices in coding, testing, deployment, and operational readiness
Mentor engineers at various stages of their careers and foster technical growth
Influence long term platform strategy and align identity capabilities with broader company goals
Anticipate security risks and ensure compliance with modern standards and best practices
Improve the developer experience for teams building on identity services
USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $192,000 USD and $278,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $167,000 CAD and $242,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
