Responsibilities
~1 min read• Collects and/or processes patient blood obtained by venipuncture and/or capillary puncture in a timely and accurate fashion.
• Use of vacutainer tube, butterflies, syringes, and needle for drawing blood. Use of micro lancets and capillary pipettes in obtaining blood specimens by heel stick.
• Performs Positive Patient identification by verifying the patient’s name and date of birth against lab orders and accurately record it onto the specimen.
• Determines proper container type.
• Promptly draws and delivers blood specimens to the appropriate laboratory department.
- Certification as a phlebotomist by one of the following approved certifying agencies: AMT, ASCP, ASPT, NHA, or NPA.
- Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate. Completion of approved phlebotomy training course, or 6 months phlebotomy experience in hospital or other patient care setting
