Roadside Assistance Technician/Tow Driver

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on business needs and member demand.

You’ll respond to service calls, assist stranded motorists with services like jump-starts, tire changes, and lockouts, and safely tow vehicles when needed. This role combines hands-on problem solving, customer care, and safe driving, all while working independently on the road. • →Respond to roadside assistance requests from AAA members using a tow truck or service vehicle.  

• →Provide emergency roadside services, including tire changes, fuel delivery, battery testing and installation, jump starts, lockout assistance, and minor mechanical adjustments. 

• →Safely tow disabled vehicles following established procedures and towing guidelines.  

• →Verify AAA membership and deliver outstanding customer service during every interaction.  

• →Complete pre-trip and post-trip DOT inspections and report vehicle maintenance concerns.  

• →Maintain a clean and professional service vehicle.  

• →Utilize tablets and electronic devices to manage calls, update service requests, and access towing procedures.  

• →Accurately document daily activities, service calls, vehicle logs, and receipts.  

• →Maintain DOT certification and an acceptable driving record.  

• →Achieve goals related to member satisfaction, safety, productivity, and battery services.  

• →Support community and special AAA events as needed. 

Required  

• High school diploma or GED.  

• Valid state driver's license with minimal driving infractions/incidents. 

• Must successfully pass drug screening, motor vehicle record review, criminal background check, and DOT physical examination. (pre-employment and ongoing). 

• Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.  

• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.  

• Comfortable using GPS, mobile technology, tablets, and electronic applications.  

• Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 75 pounds.  

• Ability to read and interpret roadside service procedures and member benefits.  

• Basic math and recordkeeping skills.  

• Ability to successfully complete AAA training programs.  

• Commitment to safety and teamwork. 

• If employed in Illinois, possession of a valid Illinois C-Non CDL driver’s license is required 

 Preferred 

• Prior experience providing roadside assistance services such as battery testing, jump starts, lockout assistance, fuel delivery, or tire changes.  

• Previous tow truck driving experience.  

• Experience operating wheel-lift, flatbed, or dolly towing equipment.  

• Commercial driving experience.  

• Automotive knowledge or mechanical aptitude 

• Must be 21 years of age or older.  

This is a highly active, field-based position providing roadside service directly to AAA members. Employees spend up to 95% of their time outdoors and on the road, working in varying weather conditions and around traffic environments. Less than 5% of the role is performed in a traditional office setting. Safety is always the top priority, and team members are provided training and resources to perform their duties successfully.
