Join our team as a Service Vehicle Operator and be the hero our AAA members rely on when they need help most. You’ll respond to service calls, assist stranded motorists with services like jump-starts, tire changes, and lockouts, and safely tow vehicles when needed. This role combines hands-on problem solving, customer care, and safe driving, all while working independently on the road. Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Respond to roadside assistance requests from AAA members using a tow truck or service vehicle.
- →Provide emergency roadside services, including tire changes, fuel delivery, battery testing and installation, jump starts, lockout assistance, and minor mechanical adjustments.
- →Safely tow disabled vehicles following established procedures and towing guidelines.
- →Verify AAA membership and deliver outstanding customer service during every interaction.
- →Complete pre-trip and post-trip DOT inspections and report vehicle maintenance concerns.
- →Maintain a clean and professional service vehicle.
- →Utilize tablets and electronic devices to manage calls, update service requests, and access towing procedures.
- →Accurately document daily activities, service calls, vehicle logs, and receipts.
- →Maintain DOT certification and an acceptable driving record.
- →Achieve goals related to member satisfaction, safety, productivity, and battery services.
- →Support community and special AAA events as needed.
Requirements

- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid state driver's license with minimal driving infractions/incidents.
- Must successfully pass drug screening, motor vehicle record review, criminal background check, and DOT physical examination. (pre-employment and ongoing).
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Comfortable using GPS, mobile technology, tablets, and electronic applications.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to read and interpret roadside service procedures and member benefits.
- Basic math and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to successfully complete AAA training programs.
- Commitment to safety and teamwork.
- If employed in Illinois, possession of a valid Illinois C-Non CDL driver’s license is required
Preferred
- Prior experience providing roadside assistance services such as battery testing, jump starts, lockout assistance, fuel delivery, or tire changes.
- Previous tow truck driving experience.
- Experience operating wheel-lift, flatbed, or dolly towing equipment.
- Commercial driving experience.
- Automotive knowledge or mechanical aptitude
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
This is a highly active, field-based position providing roadside service directly to AAA members. Employees spend up to 95% of their time outdoors and on the road, working in varying weather conditions and around traffic environments. Less than 5% of the role is performed in a traditional office setting. Safety is always the top priority, and team members are provided training and resources to perform their duties successfully.
