In-Person Construction Estimator (Residential Renovations)

Build projects you're actually proud of!

At Ackard Contractors, we don't chase volume. We build high-quality residential renovations the right way - with solid planning, strong teams, and expert craftsmanship. We're looking for a Construction Estimator who knows their way around residential projects and wants to support our residential renovation projects from planning through execution.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Prepare accurate, detailed estimates for residential renovation projects of varying size and complexity
  • Review drawings, specifications, and scopes to fully understand project requirements
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and build complete cost breakdowns (labour, materials, trades)
  • Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier pricing
  • Work closely with design, project management, and leadership to align scope, budgets, and expectations
  • Identify gaps, risks, and cost pressures early — before they impact the project
  • Contribute to project planning to ensure jobs are set up properly before they reach the field
  • Support continuous improvement in estimating processes, tools, and accuracy

What You Bring

We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and takes ownership of their work. You understand that accurate estimating is critical to both project success and profitability, especially in a fast-paced residential renovation environment.

  • Experience estimating residential or commercial construction or renovation projects
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and scopes of work
  • Strong attention to detail — you catch gaps, inconsistencies, and missing information early
  • Comfortable working with subcontractors and suppliers to build accurate pricing
  • Organized and able to manage multiple estimates at different stages
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset — you’re not just pricing work, you’re helping set projects up for success

Experience level will be considered across a range (intermediate to senior), depending on your background and ability.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm position based out of our Edmonton office.
  • Primarily office-based with extended periods of computer work, including estimating, data entry, and document review.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment, including computer, keyboard, mouse, printer, and scanner.
  • Occasional site visits are required to review project scope, attend walkthroughs, and validate estimates; this may involve walking active job sites and navigating residential construction environments.
  • Occasional physical activity such as walking, bending, and light lifting (up to 10 lbs) may be required.
  • Frequent interaction with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, requiring strong communication and coordination.
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines, shifting priorities, and regular interruptions.
