The final offer is at the client’s discretion and will depend on the candidate’s interview result, skills, and experience. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a practical assessment as part of the application process.
About the Company:
The client is a construction company specializing in complex, custom projects, including large-scale residential builds and commercial-style structures. Their projects often involve sophisticated architectural and structural elements, requiring a high degree of precision throughout the estimating and pre-construction process.
About the Role:
The Senior Construction Estimator will support project management and administrative teams by producing accurate, comprehensive takeoffs and preliminary estimates for complex construction projects.
This is not a single-trade estimating position. The ideal candidate must be comfortable reviewing an entire set of construction documents and developing holistic quantity takeoffs across multiple construction scopes.
Projects may include large custom residences as well as buildings with commercial-level complexity, incorporating extensive concrete, structural steel, glazing, earthwork, lumber/framing, and other structural and architectural components.
The estimator must be able to independently interpret drawings, specifications, details, schedules, and related project documentation and identify quantities and scope with a very high level of accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review architectural, structural, civil, and other construction drawings to understand the complete project scope.
- Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs for complex residential and commercial-style construction projects.
- Prepare preliminary estimates to support project planning, budgeting, bidding, and pre-construction decisions.
- Identify all relevant materials, quantities, and scopes required from construction documents.
- Cross-reference drawings, details, schedules, and specifications to identify discrepancies or potentially missing scope.
- Produce clear, organized, and highly accurate takeoff documentation.
- Enter and organize estimating information using internal forms and templates, as well as client-provided estimating formats.
- Work closely with Brett, Project Manager Kevin, and the broader project management/admin team.
- Flag unclear, conflicting, or incomplete information within project documents before estimates are finalized.
- Review takeoffs for completeness and accuracy before submission.
- Help establish reliable estimating information that can be used for fixed-price project bids.
- Manage multiple estimating assignments and priorities while meeting agreed deadlines.
- As the role develops, potentially take on increased estimating responsibilities as the company expands its commercial project workload.
Required Qualifications
- Multi-Trade Estimating Experience: 5+ years of professional experience conducting holistic, whole-project takeoffs for large custom residential and commercial-style builds. Must possess broad expertise across multiple scopes, including:
- Earthwork & Sitework: Excavation, grading, backfill, and site prep.
- Concrete & Structural: Footings, foundations, slab/structural concrete, steel/metals, and reinforcement.
- Framing & Enclosure: Dimensional lumber, wall/floor/roof framing, sheathing, and glazing/exterior openings (windows/doors).
- Technical Proficiency & Accuracy: Advanced ability to independently interpret complex, full construction document sets—including sections, elevations, and schedules—not just floor plans. Must be highly detail-oriented with the capability to identify discrepancies, trace details across multiple drawing sets, and validate quantities to ensure accuracy, as errors can carry significant financial impact.
- Professional Requirements: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, adapt to company-specific estimating templates, and collaborate effectively with US-based teams via strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Degree or professional background in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Previous experience supporting US-based construction companies.
- Familiarity with US construction terminology, drawing conventions, and estimating practices.
- Experience working with complex custom residential and/or commercial projects.
- Experience producing preliminary estimates and detailed quantity takeoffs from full construction document sets.
