ACRS seeks a full-time Adult Mental Health - Medical Director who provides clinical and strategic leadership for psychiatric services within ACRS. The Medical Director role is central to advancing ACRS’s mission as a social justice organization committed to promoting the health and well-being of Asian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities and other historically underserved populations. Through clinical and strategic leadership of psychiatric services, this position ensures that care is not only high-quality and evidence-based, but also culturally responsive, linguistically appropriate, and grounded in an understanding of the structural barriers that impact access to mental health care.
This role operationalizes ACRS’s values by centering clients and communities in all aspects of service design and delivery, fostering environments where belonging is experienced by both clients and staff, and leading with compassion in clinical decision-making and staff support. The Medical Director champions equitable access to care by guiding practices that reduce disparities, improve engagement, and address the complex social, cultural, and behavioral health needs of the populations served.
In partnership with internal leaders and external stakeholders, the Medical Director advances advocacy efforts by elevating community needs within healthcare systems, influencing policy and practice, and strengthening cross-sector collaboration. This role ensures that psychiatric services reflect and respond to the lived experiences of the communities ACRS serves, while contributing to broader efforts that promote health equity, social justice, and sustainable, community-centered systems of care.

COMPETITIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE INCLUDES:
Pay range is between $283,200 to $346,400 annually. Can increase based on experience.
ACRS pays 100% for employee only HMO/Virtual Plus medical benefits. Additional options are covered anywhere from 75% to 85%.

Paid Time Off:
8 hours of vacation accrued monthly from day 1, available to use after 6 months of employment.

32 hours (max) of wellness leave per year, available to use upon hire, no waiting period. Wellness leave hour amount is subject to proration based on the calendar month of hiring.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Leads the clinical direction and overall effectiveness of psychiatric services. Establishes and implements medical standards, protocols, and models of care that improve client outcomes and ensure high-quality, culturally responsive services. Provides clinical consultation and guidance on complex cases and system-level challenges, and drives continuous improvement in psychiatric service delivery across the agency.
Provides clinical leadership and oversight of psychiatric staff, including establishing expectations for quality of care, supporting professional development, and ensuring clinical competency. Oversees recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and retention of medical staff in partnership with Human Resources, with a focus on maintaining a high-performing and mission-aligned medical team.
Provide psychiatric care to clients as assigned, including completing psychiatric evaluations, prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications, and participating as a member of the care team for assigned clients.
Leads clinical education, training, and knowledge-sharing across psychiatric and program staff. Promotes adoption of evidence-based and culturally responsive practices, and ensures staff remain current with emerging clinical trends, standards, and technologies in psychiatric care.
Represents ACRS in internal and external clinical and medical forums, including county, regulatory, and partner meetings. Leads quality assurance and risk management efforts for psychiatric services, ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, and alignment with best practices. Convenes and leads medical staff meetings to drive clinical alignment, communication, and accountability.
As a member of the Behavioral Health Services leadership team, the Medical Director shapes and advances the strategic direction of integrated behavioral health services.. Provides clinical leadership in achieving and sustaining CCBHC standards, and partners across departments to strengthen care integration, access, and outcomes for clients.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Requires a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), from an accredited college or university and at least 5 years’ experience with individuals with chronic and/or acute mental illness; AND
Current State Board licensure. If a Medical Doctor, must have active license to practice medicine in the State of Washington, active DEA license, and ability to have professional services compensated by Medicare/Medicaid; AND
At least 2 years in managerial capacity.
Cultural Humility:
Commitment to applying cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive psychiatric practices, particularly with Asian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander populations.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of psychiatric principles, evidence-based treatment modalities, and best practices in community behavioral health.
Comprehensive understanding of integrated behavioral health service delivery, including coordination among medical, nursing, and case management teams.
Knowledge of laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing psychiatric practice, confidentiality (HIPAA), and behavioral health documentation.
Ability to provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychiatric staff, fostering professional growth and quality improvement.
Strong leadership and administrative skills to manage medical operations, staff coverage, performance, and quality assurance systems.
Ability to develop, implement, and monitor medical policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure high-quality client care and compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
Skill in fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams and maintaining positive working relationships with internal departments and external partners.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively—both orally and in writing—with staff, clients, and community partners.
Ability to exercise sound clinical and administrative judgment in complex or high-pressure situations.
Skill in facilitating meetings, trainings, and case consultations that promote learning, accountability, and client-centered service delivery.
Technical Skills:
Competency in navigating electronic health record (EHR) systems like EPIC and efficiently completing documentation in compliance with agency standards.
Proficient in using modern workplace technology, including collaboration tools, communication platforms, and business applications for document creation, scheduling, and data management. Able to learn new systems quickly, navigate digital workflows, and use online tools and resources to support day-to-day work.
Additional Requirements:
Must have reliable transportation. If using a personal or agency vehicle to fulfill job duties, must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under ACRS’s auto policy. If using personal vehicle, must have current auto insurance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The position requires regular mobility within the office or workspace, may involve sitting for extended periods throughout the day and the ability to handle objects, tools, or controls. Occasional lifting or moving of up to 20 pounds may be required. Involves tasks where visual acuity is beneficial.
This position is hybrid, with work divided between on-site and remote locations. At least 75% of the work will be conducted on-site or in-person, while the remaining 25% be performed remotely (telecommuting). These hybrid work expectations are subject to change at the agency’s discretion. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
