  • Performs venous, capillary, urine drug screen, swab collection, or other specimen collection. 
  • Ensures quality collection of specimens including appropriate sample container, sample volume, collection priority, and sample identification.
  • Resolves unusual test orders by following up with care giver, reference lab, pathology, or referring to lab leadership when appropriate.
  • Receives specimens, assesses priority, assures appropriate specimen identification and type, and processes hospital-registered and outreach patients.
  • Centrifuges, aliquots, and distributes samples to appropriate testing areas, including loading samples onto various analyzers.
  • Prepares samples for off-site testing, including assessing appropriate sample type, container, and temperature, and completes related paperwork and documentation.
  • Packages samples for courier transport to off-site testing locations. Participates in new associate and student training and orientation.
  • Actively participates in shift-to-shift communication to ensure continuity of laboratory operations and patient care.
  • Handles and resolves customer inquiries and complaints regarding laboratory results, test requirements, and other laboratory information.
  • Maintains inter- and intra-department relations through appropriate communication, teamwork, and cooperation. Performs waived and moderate complexity testing as defined by guidelines under the supervision of laboratory management.
