AFL Integria is seeking a Lead Hand Technician to support our field operations and help ensure fiber optic work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is a hands-on role for an experienced technician who can lead by example, support team members in the field, and step in when technical or operational issues require additional expertise.

As part of AFL, a global leader in fiber optic products and network solutions, AFL Integria supports the build and delivery of telecommunications infrastructure across Canada. Our teams work together to provide dependable service while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, accountability, and the customer experience.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Lead Hand Technician acts as a key resource for the regional field team. In addition to completing fiber optic installations and service work, the Lead Hand provides technical support, assists with troubleshooting and escalations, conducts site inspections when required, and helps keep field activities on track.

The role also works closely with management and support teams on field updates, material requirements, equipment readiness, and outstanding service orders. Success in this position requires strong technical ability, sound judgment, effective communication, and a willingness to take ownership and support the team wherever needed.

Responsibilities

  1. →Escalation expertise, customer service.
  2. →Field updates, helping admin/management with region updates when day 7 SLA orders are due.
  3. →Site inspections – As requested by OHS/Management
  4. →Material – Helping materials team and management.
    1. →Stock levels
    2. →Yard is being kept in an appropriate manner.
  5. →Providing unparalleled customer service excellence
  6. →Use ladders or bucket trucks to access aerial locations
  7. →Accessing Fiber Optic Terminals to connect cables
  8. →Adhering to existing practices and standards to ensure consistent quality
  9. →Operate equipment and vehicle in a safe manner
  10. →Ensure vehicle and test equipment are maintained in excellent working condition
  11. →Trouble shoot technical issues swiftly and accurately
  12. →Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  13. →Work in enclosed spaces and aloft
  14. →Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
  15. →Enhancing Organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishment
  16. →Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL
  17. →Require completion of training on the following aspects:
    1. →First aid
    2. →Bucket Truck
    3. →NSC
    4. →Confined Space
    5. →Spurs
    6. →Ground Disturbance

 

Requirements

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving - capable of complex reasoning analysis. Able to understand and interpret business logic.

  • Ability to do fine, precise work with their hands
  • Must be able to work at height of 30 feet
  • Ability to manage a physically demanding workload
  • Proficient in operating hand and power tools, and test equipment
  • Normal color vision to work with color-coded wiring
  • Fluent in English

 

  • Physically demanding workload
  • Work location: work in locations that preclude the ability to return home
  • Work hours: various shifts as assigned (morning, evening, weekend, and statutory holidays)
  • Travel is required
