Head of Operations

AfterQuery is hiring a Head of Operations to own the delivery of high-quality human data to frontier AI labs. In this role, you will build the organizational structure needed to scale our operations, managing internal teams and structuring projects with potentially thousands of contractors. You will develop key operational metrics, partner with engineering to ensure our data production engine, and be responsible for data delivery at AfterQuery. This is a high-leverage position for a leader ready to scale the operational backbone of a fast-growing human data company.

AfterQuery is a research lab investigating the boundaries and capabilities of artificial intelligence through novel datasets and experimentation. Our customers are the foundation model labs—we serve all of the frontier AI labs.

We are based in San Francisco, CA, and have raised funding from top investors, including Y Combinator and BoxGroup, ex-partners from Lightspeed and Index Ventures, and senior leadership at Google DeepMind and Meta GenAI.

Our founding team brings backgrounds from Jane Street, Meta, Citadel Securities, Google, Palantir, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Silver Lake.

• Build the operational backbone for a company working with frontier AI labs

  Organizational Structure: Help develop and define the organizational structure (Managers, Leads, Associates, etc.) required to scale AfterQuery effectively.

  Data Delivery: Be responsible for the delivery of high-quality data to the frontier labs.

  Operational Health: Develop metrics, KPIs, and dashboards to monitor and scale internal operations.

  Scale Management: Structure projects involving potentially thousands of contractors creating human data points.

  Engineering Collaboration: Work with engineering to iterate on an operational structure that guarantees high-quality data production.

  Quality Control: Track data annotator progress, reviewer statistics, and other quality metrics to ensure excellence.

• 5+ years of operations experience, with at least 1 year in senior leadership roles at human data companies or operationally hairy companies

• Proven track record of scaling operations through rapid growth

• Exceptional project management skills; ability to juggle multiple priorities and deliver results on tight timelines

• Comfort building systems and processes from scratch in ambiguous, resource-constrained environments
