Senior Counsel
Administration ~ St. Louis

The Missouri Attorney General's Office is seeking a highly skilled attorney to serve as a Senior Counsel within Administration, focusing on policy and special litigation matters. This attorney will analyze significant legal issues that affect statewide policy and will play a key role in shaping and advancing the Office's strategic legal priorities.

Core responsibilities include reviewing and occasionally litigating complex, high‑profile matters; advising senior leadership on legal strategy that supports the Office's policy objectives; and leading special investigations and projects. The attorney may also monitor emerging issues that affect the rights and liberties of Missourians, participate in the review of initiative petitions, and manage the process of promulgating administrative rules. Additional responsibilities may involve collaborating with other state attorneys general on multi-state initiatives, drafting and reviewing amicus briefs, coordinating joint litigation, and contributing to policy-driven legal efforts.

A central value of this position is providing the Office with real-time flexibility-stepping in quickly to address emerging needs that may not align neatly with any single section's responsibilities and helping ensure timely execution of the Attorney General's priorities. As such, the duties of this role are dynamic and will evolve in response to the Office's needs.

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Federal and state court litigation experience
• Strong commitment to public service
• Exceptional legal writing and oral advocacy
• Background in administrative law, constitutional law, or complex civil litigation
• Experience with, or knowledge of, the state legislative process
• Experience drafting or reviewing amicus briefs, appellate filings, or policy-focused legal analyses
• Effective organizational and project‑management abilities, including managing deadlines across multifaceted matters
• Ability to clearly communicate complex legal issues and recommendations to decision‑makers
