The School of Arts and Sciences at the American International University in Kuwait comprises disciplines in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Physics, Mathematics, English Literature, Humanities, and Education. The School offers a broad interdisciplinary foundation in the natural sciences, mathematics, humanities,and education, equipping students with critical thinking, analytical, communication, and research skills essential for academic and professional success.
Scope of Work
The Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences serves as the chief academic officer, providing strategic vision and operational leadership for the School. The Dean promotes excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community engagement; supports innovative academic programs; and advances diversity in faculty and student recruitment. The role also involves fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthening connections with local and international communities, and enhancing the School's visibility and resources to support its academic mission and future growth.
Job Purpose
American International University (AIU) invites applications for Full-Time Faculty positions from qualified and motivated individuals committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Faculty members will contribute to the academic mission of the University by delivering high-quality teaching, supporting curriculum development, engaging in scholarly activities, mentoring students, and participating in departmental and institutional initiatives.
Position Overview
Full-time faculty members will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Biology and Biotechnology, developing and updating course materials, assessing student learning outcomes, and contributing to program development and accreditation activities. Faculty members are also expected to engage in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising, and participate actively in departmental committees and community outreach initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated university-level teaching experience in relevant subject areas.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Evidence of research productivity and scholarly engagement.
- Commitment to student-centered teaching and academic excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry or professional experience relevant to Biotechnology or Biological Sciences.
- Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
- Expertise in emerging areas of Biotechnology, including 3-D Bioprinting, Clinical Sciences, Tissue Engineering, Bioinformatics, Genomics, and related fields.
- Experience in supervising student research projects and internships.
- Proficiency in the use of educational technologies and learning management systems.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Teach courses (minimum 12 credit hours per week) which may include General Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, and specialized and applied Biotechnology courses covering clinical sciences/Tissue engineering/Bioinformatics.
- Develop course syllabi, instructional materials, laboratory activities, and assessments.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate academic records in accordance with university policies.
- Collaborate with faculty in curriculum development.
- Actively contribute to the intellectual and cultural growth of AIU’s academic community.
Research and Scholarly Activities
- Conduct research and scholarly activities within the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Support undergraduate student research initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Strong subject-matter expertise in Biology and Biotechnology.
- Effective classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural academic environment.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
