The Quality Control Inspector III is a senior-level quality professional responsible for performing complex receiving, in-process and final inspections of materials, components, weldments, assemblies, pressure retaining components and finished equipment. This position independently evaluates product and process conformity and exercises sound technical judgement when interpreting drawings, specifications, applicable ASME Code requirements and customer specifications.

 

The Quality Control Inspector III works independently with minimal supervision and documents nonconformances, and partners with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality personnel to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement.

  • →Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections of materials, components, weldments, assemblies, and finished equipment.
  • →Inspect equipment and fabricated components for compliance with company quality requirements, customer specifications, engineering drawings, and applicable ASME Code requirements.
  • →Independently interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, weld symbols, inspection requirements, and other technical documentation.
  • →Perform dimensional and visual inspections using appropriate precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • →Verify material identification, material certification, heat/lot traceability and applicable material documentation for pressure-retaining and critical components.
  • →Verify dimensions, tolerances, workmanship, materials, welds, and overall product conformance.
  • →Review manufacturing and quality documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established requirements.
  • →Develop, complete, and maintain inspection records and quality documentation throughout the manufacturing process.
  • →Place materials, components, assemblies or finished products on quality hold when a nonconforming condition is identified and escalate in accordance with established procedures.  
  • →Coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality personnel to address inspection findings and resolve quality concerns.
  • →Verify inspection and test equipment is properly calibrated, within its calibration period, and appropriate for the inspection being performed.
  • →Compile inspection and test data and prepare accurate quality reports and supporting documentation.
  • →Support customer, third-party, and authorized inspector activities as required.
  • →Identify recurring quality issues, inspection trends and potential systematic problems and communicate findings too Quality leadership for corrective and preventive action.
  • →Assist in determining inspection priorities to support production schedules while maintaining all required quality standards.
  • →Provide technical guidance and inspection support to less experienced inspectors as needed.
  • →Maintain organized up to date inspection records and ensure traceability of quality documentation.
  • →Follow all company quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • →Perform other duties and quality-related activities as assigned.

 

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The Quality Control Inspector III may provide technical guidance, training, and support to less experienced inspectors.

This position operates primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment and may require work around fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, testing, and material-handling operations. The employee may be exposed to varying temperatures, noise levels, moving equipment, and other conditions typical of an industrial manufacturing facility. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as designated.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, and work at varying heights and positions. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color recognition, and the ability to adjust focus.

The position requires the ability to:

  • Remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and move around manufactured equipment.
  • Use precision measuring instruments and inspection tools.
  • Work in and around large fabricated assemblies and equipment.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as required.
  • Perform inspections in varying temperatures and manufacturing conditions.

Requirements

  • CWI, NDE level II, or other recognized inspection certification preferred.
  • Experience inspecting pressure vessels, process piping, skids, or other engineered-to-order industrial equipment.
  • Familiarity with ASME Sections VIII, IX, V, and II and applicable piping codes.
  • Experience with weld inspection, material traceability, dimensional inspection, and manufacturing quality documentation.
  • Experience supporting customer or third-party inspections.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or quality preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible quality inspection experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, pressure vessel, process piping, or similar industrial environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience independently performing in-process and final inspections.
  • Experience inspecting pressure-retaining components, heat exchangers, vaporizers, and pressure vessels.  
  • Working knowledge of ASME Code Sections VIII, IX requirements applicable to pressure vessels and or process piping.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, technical specifications, weld symbols, and dimensional tolerances.
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, tape measures, and other dimensional inspection tools.
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication inspection practices.
  • Experience supporting Authorized Inspector, customer or third-party inspections.
  • Experience identifying, documenting, and communicating nonconforming conditions.
  • Experience preparing inspection reports, maintaining quality records, and compiling inspection/test data.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of visual awareness, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple inspections and assignments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively collaborating with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System.
