Finishing Operator

The Finishing Operator primarily supports powder coating operations by preparing materials, selecting the appropriate finish, loading components onto finishing systems, applying coatings, conducting quality inspections, and packaging or moving finished products to designated locations.

Shift: Monday - Thursday; 7am - 5:30pm

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret cut sheets, work orders, and manufacturing specifications to determine required colors, finishes, and processing requirements.
• Obtain, identify, and stage materials and components for finishing operations.
• Inspect incoming components for defects, cleanliness, and readiness for finishing.
• Prepare components for finishing through cleaning, masking, plugging, grinding, or other required preparation processes.
• Load and hang components onto racks, hooks, or gantry systems to ensure proper coating coverage and efficient processing.
• Set up and operate powder coating and other finishing equipment according to established procedures.
• Perform color changes and finish changeover procedures while maintaining contamination control and quality standards.
• Monitor coating application processes to ensure proper coverage, appearance, and finish quality.
• Apply powder coat and other approved finishing materials according to specifications.
• Verify coating thickness, finish appearance, gloss, and color match using approved quality inspection methods and tools.
• Conduct in-process and final quality inspections to ensure finished products meet customer and engineering requirements.
• Identify, segregate, and report non-conforming materials, finishes, or products.
• Load and unload materials from curing ovens and finishing systems using approved handling procedures.
• Move finished products to designated staging, storage, assembly, or shipping locations.
• Maintain accurate production, quality, and material documentation as required.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment and process issues and communicate concerns to supervision.
• Perform routine cleaning and housekeeping activities to maintain equipment and work areas.
• Follow all safety procedures related to powder coating materials, compressed air systems, chemicals, ovens, material handling equipment, and personal protective equipment.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
• All other duties and special projects assigned.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret cut sheets, work instructions, and manufacturing specifications.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, powered tools, and assembly equipment.
• Basic understanding of measurements and dimensional requirements.
• Ability to use measuring devices such as tape measures and other inspection tools.
• Basic computer skills for production reporting and documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with powder coating, industrial finishing, or paint application processes.
• Experience performing color changeovers and finish changeover procedures.
• Experience using coating thickness gauges and other quality inspection equipment.
• Experience working around curing ovens, conveyors, and finishing systems.
• Experience with lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
• Forklift or material handling equipment experience.

• Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods (8–12 hours per shift).
• Ability to safely move throughout the manufacturing floor.
• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and/or ladders as required for job tasks.
• Ability to use hands, wrists, and fingers for handling materials, writing, and computer work.
• Frequent use of computers, keyboards, tablets, scanners, or handheld devices.
• Ability to work in a loud, fast-paced industrial environment.
• Ability to work in hot and cold environmental conditions.
