The Criminal Investigations Subject Matter Expert will serve as a senior member of a multidisciplinary mission team supporting federal law enforcement in countering cyber-enabled financial crime, global trafficking networks, and emerging digital threats. In this role, you will leverage a strong cyber investigative background to apply advanced analytic expertise to develop actionable intelligence, identify capability gaps, and guide the design of new automated investigative and analytic capabilities.

You will collaborate closely with a diverse team of engineers and subject matter experts to translate mission problems into technical requirements, research priorities, and integrated solutions. This position is ideal for an experienced investigative or intelligence professional comfortable operating at the intersection of analysis, mission strategy, and capability development.

Work location: Work is hybrid, with occasional visits to customer and/or corporate locations in DC/Northern Virginia. 

Responsibilities

  • Produce high impact analysis on cybercrime, financial crime, and related illicit networks.
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts and engineers to ensure analytic insights align with technical solutions.
  • Identify, elicit, and prioritize mission requirements and research topics for law enforcement partners.
  • Develop use cases, gap analyses, decomposition frameworks, solution concepts, and technical documentation.
  • Prepare structured analytic assessments, technical reports, presentations, and trend analyses for senior stakeholders.
  • Contribute to R&D activities focused on closing capability gaps in investigative, analytic, and cyber operations workflows. 
  • Apply advanced knowledge and experienced judgment to guide investigations and inform mission decision-making.
  • Support integration of analytic, forensic, and automated capabilities into operational law enforcement environments.
  • 5 or more years of experience in cyber investigations, cyber intelligence, illicit network analysis, financial crime investigations, or related fields.
  • Master’s degree in cybersecurity, intelligence studies, analytics, computer science, or a similar discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated expertise analyzing complex criminal networks, cyber-threat ecosystems, or illicit finance operations.
  • Proven ability to produce structured analytic outputs and brief senior investigators or leadership.
  • Experience collaborating with technical engineering, forensic, or analytic teams to support mission execution.
  • Ability to lead analytic lines of effort and independently manage complex tasks.
  • Strong judgment applying highly specialized knowledge to ambiguous or complex operational challenges.
  • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work in a hybrid capacity and ability to attend in-person meetings in Washington, DC / Northern Virginia.
  • Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for a Secret clearance. DHS Entry on Duty (EOD) suitability is required to begin support. Following EOD approval, candidates will be processed for, and must successfully obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Experience supporting federal, state, or local law enforcement or homeland security missions.
  • Familiarity with digital-forensic concepts, blockchain analysis, or investigative tool development workflows.
  • Experience in R&D or capability-development environments.
  • Knowledge of illicit network structures, trafficking patterns, cyber-enabled financial exploitation, or emerging criminal network behaviors.
  • Experience producing analytic products for senior executives, investigators, or interagency partners.
  • Ability to translate mission needs into technical requirements, analytic frameworks, and development roadmaps.
  • Thrives developing in fast moving, agile environments.
  • Active DHS EOD suitability
  • Active DHS Secret or above clearance
