As the Director, Merchandising - Men’s Apparel, you define and lead the North American product assortment strategy for Men’s Apparel, translating global product vision into profitable, consumer-centric assortments across regional marketplaces. In this role, you own the regional assortment plans and business performance from a Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) perspective and you ensure product line strategies are adopted and optimized across all channels. Leading a team of merchandising experts, you integrate insights and decisions across multiple planning horizons, from post-season hindsight and in-season business management to future assortment and buy planning, long-range forecasting, and line planning. As a critical connector across Product, Merchandising, Planning, and Commercial teams, you create new ways of working that bring regional Go-to-Market strategies to life and deliver a seamless product experience across North America.

This role is based out of our North Vancouver, BC office, (or the Portland, OR office with significant travels to Vancouver, BC if located in Portland). Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada or the U.S. 

The Merchant team is responsible for delivering regional, seasonal product assortments that support the overall global product direction. In partnership with the Product Line Management (PLM) team, Merchants drive company sales, gross margin, and inventory productivity goals, in both our wholesale and vertical channels. This high performing team works closely with the Commercial and Merchandise Planning and Allocations (MP&A) teams to create future seasonal line plans and to maximize in-season sales performance.
  • Developing and driving long term (5+ year plans) merchandising strategies for all product areas across Men’s Apparel, realizing the creative vision to bring line plans to market
  • Leading cross-functionally to stand up new ways of working with on and off-calendar categories
  • Leading a Merchandising team to execute both in-season and towards future seasons, while developing a bench of talent for continued growth
  • Providing strategic insights regularly; identifying additional product assortment or business growth opportunities
  • Leading the GTM process and advising on GTM tools for best-in-class market and consumer (guest) impact
  • Bringing our innovation engine in-line by building strategies to trickle-down technology and finding opportunities to accelerate commercialization
  • Conducting regional research to maintain expert knowledge of the market and traveling regularly for store openings, market visits and to our North Vancouver, BC headquarters, quarterly
  • Upholding Fair Labor Association’s Workplace Code of Conduct and Principles of Fair Labor and Responsible Sourcing, throughout the Arc’teryx supply chain
  • Collaborating with leaders cross-functionally to build and test completely new product concepts in emerging market segments
  • Exploring new areas for product expansion in partnership with the Creative Team, building business cases for category expansion
  • Collaborating with the Global PLM teams to test new concepts in single markets
  • You have 10+ years’ experience in merchandising with a product-led brands, and 5+ years’ experience leading a team
  • You are an influential leader, possessing high emotional intelligence, with the ability to drive alignment across diverse cross-functional groups at all levels of the business
  • You are product-obsessed, with a drive for understanding the “why” behind new products, and an unparallel capacity for product knowledge
  • You have expertise in driving strategy, line planning and line architecture
  • You have a proven track record in developing and leading the execution of a multi-year business strategy
  • You have strong presentation skills, and are comfortable sharing stories and strategies with senior leaders
  • You have proven people leadership skills and the ability to build, coach and guide a diverse and high performing team 
  • You demonstrate tireless integrity in driving excellence to milestones and deliverables
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity 
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions, driving organizational excellence through continuous communication
  • You thrive on building relationships and creating partnerships across the organization

  • The salary range for this role is CAD$149,000 - CAD$195,000
