The Ares Corporate Communications & Marketing team is seeking candidates for the position of Vice President, External Communications. This role will help lead media relations and other external communications efforts for Ares’ activities in the U.S., partnering with internal and external stakeholders to proactively promote the Ares story and protect the Ares brand.

This role will report to the team’s Principal leading U.S. External Communications.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead external communications efforts in the U.S.
  • In partnership with the broader Corporate Communications & Marketing team, help develop and drive a cohesive, strategic approach to media engagement, corporate announcements, speaking opportunities, and content promotion.
  • Work with the team to maintain and strengthen relationships with key media across broadcast, top-tier financial, and relevant trade outlets in the U.S.
  • Manage potential reputational issues for Ares and/or its portfolio companies and assets.
  • Liaise with global colleagues across the U.S., Europe, and APAC to drive key narratives to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Draft, edit, and collaborate with senior leadership, investment teams, legal, and compliance to prepare event‑driven communications materials, including press releases, talking points, media statements, and other briefing materials.
  • Collaborate with senior Ares investment professionals, as well as fund and public investor relations colleagues, to support external thought‑leadership campaigns and materials.
  • Attend and manage media engagements at key industry conferences for multiple senior business leaders and investment professionals.
  • Support internal reporting and audit needs with a focus on data analysis.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for Ares’ reputation, clients, and assets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7–10 years of work experience in fast‑paced, strategic communications roles.
  • Significant in‑house and/or agency experience in media relations for asset management and/or private markets.
  • A team player with a track record of operating with limited oversight to deliver high‑quality work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience collaborating with global teams and multiple stakeholders to complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proactive, responsive, and results‑driven.
  • Deep understanding of and/or clear interest in alternative investing.
  • Ability to mine for unique stories, craft compelling narratives, and place them in relevant and impactful earned, owned, and sponsored channels.
  • Strong background in developing integrated communications plans that align with top‑line corporate messaging.
  • Demonstrated project‑management and decision‑making skills.

What We Offer

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$190,000 - $240,000
