SUMMARY
We’re seeking a motivated Production Laboratory Technician to join our team in Brooklyn, Wisconsin. This position plays a crucial role in processing, packaging, and ensuring the quality control of bovine semen. Working under the direction of the Lab Manager, you’ll help ensure our products meet JLG’s strict quality standards and support our production goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Production & Lab Work
- Accurately process, package, and label semen according to JLG standards.
- Operate filler, sealer, and straw printing equipment to maintain precise product identification.
- Prepare racks and materials for daily production.
- Conduct semen quality analysis using the IVOS cell analyzer and perform post-thaw motility checks.
- Record data and maintain accurate production and collection documentation.
- Follow all cleaning, sanitation, and sterilization procedures to maintain a clean and safe lab.
- Work efficiently in cold environments as required by product standards.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, management, and external partners.
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused work culture.
- Participate in team meetings to share ideas, solve problems, and improve workflows.
- Be flexible in assisting with additional lab or production tasks as needed.
- Demonstrate pride, accuracy, and accountability in all work performed.
- Perform related duties and/or special projects as assigned
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Commitment to quality assurance and precision work.
- Perform daily safety inspections and identify safety hazards
- Work flexibly and varying work schedules and overtime as needed
- Perform basic mathematical problems (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and customers
- Follow written and verbal instructions; problem solve
- Communicate effectively in English (verbal/written)
- Complete written work orders legibly and keep records to coordinate feed schedules
- Contribute to a positive work environment
- Demonstrate good organization skills
Minimum Job Requirements, Experience and Training Guidelines:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Post-secondary education in animal science, biotechnology, or a related field preferred.
- Prior experience in livestock production, laboratory, or agricultural manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Basic math and computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Physical requirements :
- Frequent standing for long period of time
- Frequent bending, squatting and kneeling
- Frequent lifting and carrying
- Frequent grasping, holding and reaching
- Constant use of overall vision
- Frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to wear ear protection or hear in noisy conditions
- Frequent co-worker contact; occasional working alone
- Frequent exposure to loud noise
- Ability to work in cold environments and perform repetitive, detail-oriented tasks.
