About This Position
Under general supervision, performs complex tasks related to installation, maintenance, and operation of equipment in a utility facility, power, steam, or chiller operation.

Pay range: $38.32 - $48.67 per hour

This position operates and maintains electrical, steam, and chilled water equipment and systems. Due to the critical nature of our customers, the work environment is a high stress environment in extreme conditions (outdoors in hot/cold temperatures). The position requires operations and maintenance experience in multiple crafts/fields to be successful.
**This position is categorized as Essential Personnel which requires reporting to work during emergencies and bad weather.
**This posting is for a 3rd (NIGHT) shift position, or any shift as required by the business. Specific shift will be assigned at the completion of the hiring process. Work outside of the normal schedule (multiple shifts, weekends, holidays) will be required to support plant operations / projects.
1) This position requires the ability to work in extreme hot/cold, confined spaces, climb ladders, lift 50 pounds, noisy environments, and wear a respirator when required.
2) As required, this position may report to multiple locations including but not limited to:
• District Cooling Plant 1 | 300 San Antonio St, Austin TX 78701
• District Cooling Plant 2 | 410 Sabine St, Austin TX 78701
• District Cooling Plant 3 | 812 Electric Dr, Austin, TX 78703
This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a “Class C” or the ability to acquire within 90 days of your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
