The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a dedicated and motivated Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team at our South Mountain Campus, with flexibility to work at our Papago Park Campus and Sunnyslope Campus when needed. A Day in the Life:

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all AHS facility's plumbing, heating, cooling, and electrical systems. The Maintenance Technician will keep the premises safe and comfortable for the animals, the public, and employees. The Maintenance Technician will also communicate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers. They will also assist with preventative facilities maintenance for all AHS properties. May be asked to come in after hours to assist with emergencies.

 

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma / GED
  • Must be 21 years old
  • Valid driver's license
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to pass driving, drug and background screening to be insured as an AHS driver
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and repairs for shelter buildings, grounds, kennels, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and facility equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Monitor campus facilities for preventative maintenance and repair needs, responding promptly to maintenance requests and facility emergencies.
  • Maintain animal housing areas, including fencing, gates, drains, and ventilation systems, to ensure clean, safe, and functional environments.
  • Manage electronic work orders by prioritizing requests, completing repairs and small projects, documenting work performed, and providing maintenance updates to leadership.
  • Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, generators, pressure washers, and company vehicles while adhering to organizational safety standards.
  • Support facility improvement projects by constructing and repairing fixtures, coordinating materials and supplies, and assisting with operational and event-related needs.
  • Professionally interact with vendors, donors, and the public while supporting facility operations and improvement initiatives.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, have dexterity to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must have ability to safely climb ladders and work at elevated heights when performing repairs and maintenance tasks. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment. Ability to operate maintenance tools, power equipment, and machinery safely and effectively. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, temperatures, and environmental conditions. Ability to perform repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders. Ability to maintain balance and coordination while working on ladders, rooftops, or uneven surfaces. Ability to work around animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and activity levels in a safe and calm manner. Ability to visually inspect facilities, equipment, and repair needs with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to walk and be on feet the majority of the day.

There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Time is divided between typical air conditioned and heated office environments and the outdoors.
