International Portfolio Lead (Secondment – 12 months)
Shared Services are pleased to announce this development opportunity due to internal promotion. This is a secondment position, initially lasting 12 months with the possibility of extension or permanent appointment based on business case/demand 2027 onward.
The International Portfolio Lead is accountable for the strategic leadership, governance and delivery of a complex portfolio of technology, digital and business change initiatives across UK and international customers.
The role provides end-to-end portfolio oversight, ensuring the successful delivery of business outcomes, customer commitments and transformation objectives through effective leadership of project teams, stakeholders, suppliers and delivery partners.
Operating at a senior leadership level, the role holder will create and maintain an integrated view of portfolio performance, balancing customer priorities, business objectives, financial controls, resource demands and delivery risks. The role requires significant engagement with stakeholders, acting as the primary portfolio representative across governance, strategic planning and customer forums.
You will drive a culture of delivery excellence, continuous improvement and professional development, ensuring the portfolio is delivered in accordance with agreed standards, governance frameworks and business objectives.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your career within BAE Systems due to exposure gained across multiple business areas.
Your main responsibilities as International Portfolio Lead will involve:
· Lead and manage a complex international portfolio of technology, digital and business change initiatives to deliver agreed business and customer outcomes.
· Provide leadership, direction and support to Programme, Project Managers and wider delivery teams, driving a high-performance culture.
· Develop and maintain an integrated portfolio view, ensuring alignment between business strategy, customer priorities, resources and delivery objectives.
· Accountable for portfolio performance across scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, dependencies and benefits realisation.
· Represent the portfolio at senior governance forums, steering groups, contract reviews and customer reviews.
· Lead portfolio governance, assurance and reporting activities, ensuring compliance with organisational standards and lifecycle management processes.
· Accountable for portfolio financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, investment planning and resource optimisation.
· Lead supplier and partner engagement, ensuring contractual commitments and delivery expectations are achieved.
· Support talent development, succession planning and capability growth across the wider delivery community.
Your skills and qualifications:
· Advanced knowledge of portfolio, programme and project management principles and methodologies.
· Good understanding of business change, organisational transformation and transition management.
· Extensive knowledge of portfolio governance, assurance and reporting frameworks.
· Knowledge of financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and investment management.
· Understanding of commercial management, supplier governance and contract delivery.
· Exceptional leadership and people management capability.
· Strong strategic planning and portfolio management skills.
· Strong decision-making capability within complex and ambiguous environments.
· Professional PM Qualification (e.g. Prince 2, APM PMQ as a minimum)
Location: Preston (Hybrid – Bi-weekly commitment to site)
