BakerHicks provides a managed service for a major Defence Organisation's Configuration Management function. Working directly on the client's sites, we support CAD, BIM, Surveying, GIS, and Tooling activities through a team of approximately 60 specialists.
As our service continues to grow, we are looking for a skilled and motivated CAD Technician to join the team, providing essential drawing, modelling, and configuration management support across a diverse portfolio of architectural, civil, structural, and building services projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly regulated environment where accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement are at the heart of project delivery.
You will be an experienced CAD Technician with a strong understanding of architectural and building services coordination and a passion for delivering high-quality drawings and models. Comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll have a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering projects right first time.
You will be confident engaging with stakeholders, undertaking site surveys, managing drawing records, and ensuring compliance with client standards and procedures. Experience mentoring and supporting junior team members would also be advantageous.
- Produce high-quality 2D and 3D CAD models, schematics, P&IDs, layouts, and schedules using Autodesk platforms.
- Support the configuration control and maintenance of facility "As Built" and record models/drawings.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company, project, and client CAD standards.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and right-first-time delivery.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Produce schematics, P&IDs, 2D drawings, 3D models, general arrangements, and detailed drawings across architectural, civil, structural, and building services disciplines.
- →Generate and modify CAD information using Autodesk platforms including AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP.
- →Support configuration control and management of facility "As Built" and record drawings.
- →Complete site surveys, accurately capturing redline amendments and asset information.
- →Liaise directly with customers to understand and confirm project requirements.
- →Work closely with the CAD Team Lead, Senior CAD Technicians, and project stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery.
- →Review technical requirements and identify the most efficient solutions to meet client needs.
- →Generate accurate drawings from survey data and redline mark-ups.
- →Ensure service level indicators (SLIs) are achieved, maintaining a strong focus on quality and accuracy.
- →Process, review, and check incoming drawings from contractors and suppliers.
- →Follow configuration management and document control processes, ensuring all documentation and correspondence are correctly maintained.
- →Monitor progress against allocated programmes and timescales.
- →Identify opportunities to improve workflows, efficiencies, and project delivery processes.
- →Mentor and support trainees and junior technicians where required.
- →Comply with company Health & Safety requirements and Safe Systems of Work.
- Good knowledge of 2D and 3D architectural and building services coordination.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP.
- Experience with Revit, Navisworks, ReCap, and Point Cloud data would be advantageous.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of Common Data Environments (CDEs) and document management systems.
- Knowledge of drawing configuration and information management throughout the lifecycle of a facility.
- Understanding of technical standards, regulatory requirements, and data management principles.
- Awareness of construction, engineering, and building services methods and processes.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary construction and engineering projects.
- Ability to interrogate technical information and present outputs that meet client requirements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
- Proven ability to deliver projects accurately, on time, and to a high standard.
- Committed to working in accordance with industry standards, procedures, and best practice.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and able to work effectively using your own initiative.
Requirements
~1 min read- Ideally educated to HNC level or above in a CAD-related discipline.
- Autodesk-certified training or qualifications would be advantageous.
Many of the positions within our company are subject to security clearance or security assurance levels.
The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.
In some cases, additional nationality or residency criteria may also apply due to specific client or national security obligations.
